I have a C4 transmission in a 66 mustang. I have one thing left to do to finish my wiring. I hooked up a rear view monitor and it works when I am in neutral, not when I am in reverse. Please advise. My ride is currently up on blocks. Thank you in advance.
I'd just add a normally open micro switch with a bracket that will contact the shift mechanism when the shifter is placed in to reverse..Power in to the switch ( fused) on one side, wire the opposite side so it powers the backup function on your camera when it contacts.

Thank you very much Chris. I will do that but it still leaves me curious why the NSS and monitor don't mesh in reverse. The monitor is new and so is the NSS. Would it be because I did something wrong in my installation or because both are made of Chineesium ?
Not because it is Chineesium. If you are powering the monitor through your NSS, the switch is only closed in neutral and park to allow the starter to work or you would be able to engage the starter in drive of reverse. Back up monitors are only meant to work in reverse, not neutral, so as Chris suggested, you need a switch that is only activated when you shift into reverse. You could also get power from your backup lights. Warren

If the neutral ss is on the transmission (that's where I think it is) it should be backup lights / NSS all in one.
You need to find the wire that feeds the back up lights.
Let's start with basics, How many wire on the NSS?
Can you take a picture of it?

I think there are 4 wires off the NSS. I don't think I have back-up lights. Not sure though. I think I found part of the problem. The rod going from the lever at the bottom of my shifter extends to the lever rising from the transmission and it is adjustable at the hand shifter end. I moved the bolt to the back of the rod and now the the camera engages right near reverse. I'll have to see if I can tweak it a bit more. Also, I forgot to inseert the pin in the NSS hole the first time. I got it in this time. I am understanding this better now. I think I just need to adjust the rod a bit more between the hand nshift and the trans shift. Thank you for helping gentlemen. I appreciate it.
In the photo, the pin is still inserted (removed later) and the bolts and kick down still have to be tightened and done.
I don't think I do. I'll have to check. I know I have signals and stop but don't think I ever checked for back up lights. There is no clear portion on my lens. I'll check today.
