Anyone have the ability to run plates? (hit and run)

Last week some idiot backed into my truck and bolted.  Luckily someone from my office seen it happen and snapped a blurry photo.  It was reported to the Police and the collision center as required by Ontario.

Well it seems that the DRPS cannot run partial plates, and so far my insurance company won't "We cannot run all the plate combinations"

So I have a partial plate along with the make/model/color and a description of the driver, yet it seems it my ****ing job to track the guy down.

Anyone out there that can help?

Not sure what you can do now about this.

"HOWEVER",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if this were a major crime, i believe the police could run a partial plate,:
EG: brown Dodge Caravan, maybe 98-to 2005,, last three didgits of the plate are 347.

a barrie cop would probaly do it for a box of beer .
The ins co would have to run all the plate number combo,s then go back an search by vehicle
maybe do you know any one in the 4 oh 7 syndicate , they have every ones plate records .
or maybe you could call the local city bylaw office , if you know a city worker , they can run plates for illegal parking , abandoned vehicles et ..77.

Even if you find the guy no one is going to change there mind and care. If you have comprehensive your going to get dinged for the deductible but they cant raise your rates. They are not going to get a conviction with a partial plate unless the guy fesses up . Not likely going to happen . O by the way Its illegal for a cop to run your name without probable cause. meaning they wont admit to it in court but they do it all the time. So  running a few thousand plates or violating 99.9 % of the peoples rights to privacy to find one guy that might have done it just isn't going to happen. You will just drive yourself nuts and still no one will care and you cant make them.

Its more a principle thing anymore this is the 2nd (damn near 3rd) hit and run on my vehicles in the last two months.  The 1st on was on our 3 day old Equinox, lady backed into the front corner shattering the fog lamp and the bumper cover.  She was about to drive off when a witness stopped her before they could leave.  $3600 later and the car was fixed.

2nd one guy goes to park in a parking lot, swipes down the side of the equinox, gets out, looks at the damage and bolts.  Witnesses there were "to slow getting their phone out" so no pics, no plate and luckily I could polish most of that damage out.  All we know is that it was a fat white guy driving a black equinox (per witness statement)

So yeah I am a bit pissed off at this one.

I talked to the business that the guy was backing out of (lawyers office) of course they have no idea who it could have been, until I showed them the photo, then it became "It could be one of our couriers"  Far as I know its hard to do that job without a license.......****er.

I do not really need them to fess up, I have a picture and a witness to the damage.

Cops would not be running a name, they would be generating a list of possible plates with vehicle type, no breach there. Though the police will/can not run partials, that has to go to the MTO for some reason.

After my conversation with the adjuster last night I am not very hopeful they will be helping out. And come next renewal I will be changing insurance companies, they get a bunch of my money and are great until they have to do their ****ing job, then they become pricks.

Wasn't a major crime, no one was injured.

What I have is a picture of a green/blue (that funky aqua color) Montana type van with no roof rack, with the partial plate of A**N-86*

The guy driving was a white male, average build, wearing a "golf" style hat.

Keeper says

(I do not really need them to fess up, I have a picture and a witness to the damage)

A witness and a picture is not going to cut it the cops and the insurance company know that . Any company you move to will do the same thing but it's good to shop around for better deals anyway . Recent case in Hamilton cop have a video of guy walking into bar with bat- video of conflict in bar and bat being swung in the air - guy leaving bar with bat . you guessed it not enough evidence to convict guy with bat. The insurance adjuster doesn't care whats right or wrong their job it to fix the problem in the most cost effective way. The cops don't care because the insurance will fix it and they don't have to do anything . Just the way it is and you can't change it. Life is to short to sweat about the small things.

I,m not great with math , but that partial number could probably be like 3 million combinations . there is an older customer at the shop I work at , his wife,s car has been hit I think three times in parking lots , you know where they pull in , mis judge distance , hit you , back up and go get another parking spot .
he bought a cheappyy go pro camera and a cheeepy car alarm set up with a motion sensor . put the camera right beside the lic plate in the grille . I seem to think it was two days , bump , on comes camera , camera films car backing up , two teen age girls get out , and basically kneel down right in frt of camera to inspect damage , then get back in and leave the spot .
Here,s the best part , colour picture , clearly showing lic plate , make of vehicle , some obvious bumper damages , the faces of two occupants , and leaving .
But he didn't check the camera for a week . He checked it the first day , then waited a week .
The cop on the counter at the barrie cop shop told him that it didn't axeually show them doing damage , they might have just been looking at his damaged bumper and left .
Yup that's right .
But he did see the van about a month later , followed it home , got the address , made a copy , went back knocked on the door , gave it too the lady who answered .
He never told them his name and is hoping the parents tuned the kid up a bit .probably not .
Barrie is the worst they hire all the wash out,s from Toronto ..77.

Not that it a good option but to be honest around here any way your better off with them taking off. Cops won't show up unless someone needs an ambulance or the air bags deploy. Had a Asian guy drive out of a parking lot into the rear wheel of my truck other the wrecking my rear tire that his license plate that got stuck in it. Ripping the front body panels with plastic rivets off his car because the tire was still turning there was only minor scratching on the wheel  wells. Call the cop they wont come have to go to reporting center. next day get a call from the insurance saying its my fault story's don't match so each company will cover the cost for repairs. I'm not in jail so I didn't pay buddy a visit. that was 2007 still on my record for less then 500 damage that had noting to do with me .If he would of took off all I would of been out is 500 bucks. Bastards smile So if you ever get hit in Hamilton pull out your pen knife and cut your finger because there would be no way his story would of flew if a cop showed up. Same truck stolen and replaced 2 times attempted theft 5 or 6 times between 2003 and 2007in the end they where going to replace it again till I said no. Picked up a old ford ranger for 200 bucks and the 57 problem solved . If you want you can come over and run into the ranger. I'm always up for a good laugh.
