Early yesterday morning (Sat.), I set out for a trip to Wainfleet/Port Colborne from Kitchener. It's a two hour drive on a good day, the conditions weren't, to say the least, anywhere near favorable. But I decided to make the trip anyways, it was my last opportunity to see my sister in law before she goes in for surgery.
We already had two inches of snow before we set out, by the time I got onto hwy6 heading south, (I had to stop and pick something up), there was close to 6" in the fellows lane-way.
I just about decided to turn back and go home, but the fellow told me, that once I was over the "Sky-way", things were a lot better, so I carried on.
Made it to Wainfleet in under 3 hrs, no problems. It snowed steady the whole time we were there (10am-4pm), time to head back.
The back roads, and hwy conditions were horrible. The drive back took 3hrs and change.
I was amazed I didn't see any cars in the ditch, any accidents, either on the way there and on the way back.
Looked like finally some people are getting the message, and adjust there driving to the road conditions, and there skill level.
The nicest part of the drive, was when I finally got off hwy6 and onto the 401...the hwy was deserted, three empty lanes, not a single car going westbound, not a glimmer of headlights behind me for miles.
There must have been a terrible pile up at Guelph Line or something?
Drove the back way over to Barrie yesterday..Took about 1/2hr longer than normal....The usual dummies passing going above the speed limit on ice. Didnt see any of them in the ditch, so I guess they are all better drivers than me....or just have horseshoes up their azzes........lol
Had to be in Burlington yesterday 7am 403 , QEW plows not even out buddy came from Grimsby over the skyway same thing . headed home at 11.30 not much better mostly hard packed ice still never seen a plow . Amazing that there was only one big pileup . never seen the highways in that crappy of condition
Drove to Toronto and picked up my son and his fiance yesterday. Saw a few in the ditch that should learn to drive. Keep the wheels out of the slush and you won't end up needing a tow truck.
Agreed, when driving i always watch the oncomming traffic, you never know just what the hell they are going to do.
Lots of brain dead morons out there.
After I posted this thread, I watched the 11pm news, and then read the papers the next day, nothing but pile-ups and mayhem.
I must have been in a cluster of sensible drivers, on the way there and back, that's close to 250 miles of bad road conditions.
