Only 15cm's or so for us here, with a breeze, so it will be blowin around a bit. Temps then will drop, but by next weekend we're back up to 0c again, same as this weekend.

Several inches of snow have fallen in the last 4 - 5 hours or so ...on the edge of raining . Sure glad I don't have to go out tomorrow as there is sure to be an ice problem with the temps down to -11 by morning . Hope nobody's power goes out .

It's heavy stuff, we just had a bit of a break, so I went out and ran the snow-blower and cleared the driveway as well as my neighbours.
It started snowing again before I got done, by the time I finished my neighbours and got back home, I had an inch in my driveway.

The wife already shoveled once before that. Now it feels like freezing rain.

This winter is certainly one of the worst in the last few years, and there seems to be no signs of a break anytime soon.

At least the blower is earning it's money.

 My walk behind was like that till I replaced the belt with 50 link . Also geared her up a bit . She's the bad ist 30 year old blower around.

Schools closed here again, i have about another 12 inches down, light fluffy stuff though, easy to move. Temps taking a big drop again though this afternoon, an old fashioned winter.

Woke up see all the time spent yesterday was wasted..Global warming eh!!!!!!!!!!What a Scam Al Gore has going for himself ..Looks like we work till about noon and call it a day or two..If I didn't have a customer vehicle in the shop sitting since before Christmas I would have come in to-day but the parts are in and he needs his truck so ...we need to get-er-done but we got big winds, lots of cold blowing snow ..St Marys is right in the darn snow belt just off lake Huron shore line and it's really nasty here this morning..Could use one of them muggy humid hot summer days about now..Yah gotta be tough to be a Canuk..

Anybody else have any of those ,frost quakes,big bangs that sound like explosions an actually shake some houses.Science says they are caused by melting water seeping under ground then suddenly freezing.Evidently the ice expands and causes the quake or shake.Wierd thing ,I never heard of them before, and I have scene a few bad winters, but this is something new to me. Ed

Ed, those "Bangs" as they are refered to are very common were the temps go way down.

This winter being colder, with frost going deeper has created a whole lot of "WTF was that?" from people in the south.

Same thing happens on lakes as the ice expands, during cold temps, common to hear big booms or rumbles.

Those bangs took me by surprise also, I knew exactly what they were, growing up in Timmins and then spending a few years in Edmonton, I was no stranger to hearing them.
But I kinda forgot about them, living in southern Ontario for some 20 yrs.
They are certainly not common here.

Wildest weather I have ever seen...cant see nothing outside....just dark fury. All houses and lights disappeared for a while

you know what guys, its winter and we live in canada. growing up in the 50's-60's you got up and dealt with it. you knew it was going to be cold, snowy, wet or windy because the evening news told you that maybe it will be. today with all the news and weather channels having to fill their screens and time frames it gets put way out of proportion. mom still had to yell at us to come in for lunch or supper. growing up on a farm i didn't know my name wasn't "get-wood" till spring.
--cold- 1976-77 driving truck on a steady toronto to vancouver run, 3 times a month, just outside cornwall alberta in the middle of the night at -35f or so at 60mph the truck literally froze up and quit. we got a ride into calgary with another truck and waited 2 days for them to thaw ours out.
--cold- late 90's snowmobiling in the cochrane area and its -30 to -40f when you get up in the morning and you still have 2 days travel at 60-70mph back to your truck in north bay. another sled trip just outside chapleau hurrying up to get into town at 7-8pm in the middle of nowhere and it is thunder-lightning and pouring rain as good as any summer storm in jan-feb?.
--the point i am making guys is its canada and sh!ts going to happen and we grew up dealing with it. today the way they sensationalize this stuff to fill screens and time frames people either don't go out or if they do they are scared.

ps; don't even mention how easy it is for the schools to call a day off, snow, rain, fog, etc-etc. i don't know how we got this old and far, its canada for crying out loud and we should be happy and proud to live here.

Good post Shag, and yes i have to agree also with Chuck, as the older we get, the more we feel the cold, and dislike winter.
Over the years it seems that people have become so vulnerable to cold winters, many don't even have proper clothing anymore, they click their remote start, the car is warm when they get in, windows melted off,and away they go again to their job.
Just look around, how many people do you see today, still wearing running shoes, no hat, and a pair of those useless little thin gloves.
Hear on the news this morning that S.Ont. is colder than we have, -40c chill factor, both in TO, and even down to Texas.
Also heard the mayor of Indy in Indiana, has passed a quick law that it is now illegal for people to drive, untill this passes.

(This is just an old fashioned winter that many of us grew up in.)
