I am going to upgrade my garage floor. Thinking about epoxy paint. All the research I've done has left me more confused than informed as to who has the best product. I know the prep is critical but I've got that covered (have a sand blaster if need to etch and a 3000 psi hot water power washer) Has any one here done there floor or know some one who has and had good success with the product they used? I am not concerned with the cost, just want to do it one time and use the "GOOD STUFF"
U Coat IT.................There is no other product. Did mine 2 years ago and it has been abused. Not a mark on it. Went directly to their plant near Detroit and saved a bundle compared to buying it here in Ontario. Easy to apply and if your floor has issues, they have all the solutions. Order your product, tell them it is for shipment to Canada and you will have your carrier pick it up. No Michigan sales tax and only HST if you don't have the required time in the states for your exemption. Go to their site www.ucoatit.com/ and do the project estimator. Definitely would recommend the gloss finish, forget the fleck, makes it impossible to find small dropped items and give them a call.

U Coat It is a good product, but it's definitely not the only product to use. U-coat-It is actually a cheaper consumer based floor epoxy. If you want the ultimate floor coating system, then look at http://www.stonhard.ca/
This is an industrial coating that will last forever. All you need to do is etch the floor with muriatic acid, let it dry then apply the coating.
I did my shop floor back in 1994 and it has never peeled or flaked. After 20 years it could use another coat to freshen it up, but it's well worth the extra cost. This is the same product that industries use for warehouses where there's heavy forklift traffic. You won't regret it. BTW, if you plan on using your garage as a "garage" and plan on spilling oil on it, don't go high gloss or you will break your neck because it will be very slippery.
I was thinking of doing mine but held off as it is well down on my "to do " list . You might want to check out www.garagejournal.com/forum/ for further ideas .
Have to agree with Dan, had my floor done with "Stonehard" 6 yrs ago. only damage is where i used the cutting torch & it "Burn't the coating" with hot slag falling on it. Prep is everything & "new" concrete was ground with diamond cutter, then epoxy primer laid down, 1 coat of colour the next day & 2nd day last coat with fine sand mixed in for traction. Pretty 'toxic" mix when mixed together & lots of smoke coming off it when installed!!

I just did 1200 sq ft with Rustoleum epoxy. Not the water based but the professional solvent based. I used 3 kits and had some left over. Really good coverage with one coat. Got it off ebay from Summit racing and picked it up in NF NY.First I rented a grinder from homeless depot and took 1 1/2 ,5 gal pails of crud off the floor. Rustoleum gives you these bags of sprinkles that you throw down as you are painting. You get progressively worse at it as you proceed. Be prepared for some serious off-gassing. I'm sure I brained a few kill cells that day. I had to temp the keepature up so I couldn't over the openhead door.

That the stuff you buy at HomeDepot? If so I hope your floor was perfect before you started. I used that stuff about 8 years ago, the first couple of years were great, then it started flaking. The side of the garage that is for "parking" is still okay, but it rarely sees the light of day. The working side of the garage, is pretty bad. Especially near the door where the sun/snow/salt gets into. I have some pics around of the damage, I will see if I can track it down.

No. The home depot stuff is water based. I got the pro version from the US
The 2 part solvent epoxy one? If so that's the one I used. If your pad was in good shape, you should be okay. Mine really flaked where the pad was "bleeding crystal" not sure what the process is called.
