Friend of mine just posted that as he lives in a lower part of Barrie, he just got notice from his insurance company that his deductible for the flood insurance section in his policy, the insurance company has raised the deductable on their clients to $2000.00 !
Insurance companies are getting skitish about spring comming and a quick thaw happening due to the high snow accumilations this winter.
When I bought my place im fixing up now the insurance company told me they will not cover water damage in the basement. At the time I didn't care because it never had a basement. I decided I needed storage space so it was cheaper to dig out the crawl space and put in a basement ...so now it matters and no insurance....$@&)!0/&kers.

Hoping for a 'slow" thaw, as my big shop has already been flooded once!!! never have had more than a small puddle just inside the door which I can live with!! Last weeks heavy rains & no place for water to go it flooded right up to frt. wheels of both cars. Took out 'approx. 50 gals. of water by shop vac & mop & pail.

My garage is 1960 vintage with a poured slab floor and I've never seen such frost heaving in the floor in the 40 years we've lived here. I can barely get the side door open and it has over 1/2" clearance in the summer - no cracks, just heaving. The patio slab floor in my small storage area is pushed up over 2", can't even get those doors closed. More snow today but we've already had the other side of our street covered with water when we had a warm spell a couple of weeks ago. It's gonna' be really wet in a lot of flood zones this spring. Mother Nature must be having a bad hair day.
I have one corner of my basement where a bit of water seeped in a few years ago, usually isnt a problem, but this year.....well, lets just say I am building an arc.....the animals are starting to gather in my yard...you get the picture
The roads dept is going to be busy this spring. There are massive potholes and frost heaves everyware. I don't think I have ever seen so many roads in such bad shape. With all the Ontario gov.cutbacks in this area I don't know how the township will be able to fix them.I think the emergency funds were used up in the ice storm and I know they are already in the red on snow removal.I wonder when they will start passing the hat.
