Hydraulic cylinder repair
Permalink

I have one of these scissor lifts, and one of my cylinders are leaking past the inner seal when I'm raising. I have the cylinder removed but I can't get the end cap off, And I can't buy the tool because I'm not licences in hydraulics.

Im im looking for a shop in the durham region that can help me out.

licensed?  you don't need that to buy the tool to remove the cylinder end, I have that tool, bring it to me I do hydraulics all the time where I work.  best to re seal both cylinders if you are going to do that.

Do  What hemi said . most of them cylinders are just held together with a chuck of wire in a slot . more then likely all thats in it is a o ring on the piston

At a 200% mark up the seals in that may be 5 bucks. The gland on it should never see oil and the only important part of it would be a bushing to hold the rod straight. As I said earlier most won't even tread the gland because it adds to the cost . Does Not show a clear  picture of the gland so if it is treaded it may have a set screw to lock it . 9 out of 10 hydraulic shops fancy tool is a chain wrench.

sure you would be saving him money if he lived close by . if he lived in the hamilton area Id just fix it for a black 2 sugars but if you blow 30 bucks in gas and 1/2 day of your time your  not saving much.

until i see his cylinders i dont know what they even look like, i dont think this is his lift, he said he has a lift like that one so i would imagine this picture is an example of the type of lift he has.  i suspect the nut that holds the piston to the shaft may be loose and oil might be getting past it, if thats the way its made.  i find these offshore cylinders are not of the greatest quality and the seals they use are cheap.

No worries guys, I am glad people are posting nothing worse then asking a question and not getting one reply. Fatstax is gonna help me out he said he can do it. I'm just sick of going into shops and they look at me like I'm 12 and laugh because I can't do what they do for a living. I just say go f*** yourself to them.

And that lift is the exact same as mine. The cylinders are a threaded cap on top and you need a spanner wrench to get it off. I saw a full write up how to repair it from the exact same cylinder. I could fix it myself if I could just get the damn top off.

Is that a str8 8 in your ride fatstax? Looks a lot like the one under my work bench. Long boy eh. Was going to get a small block for my next toy but now I might rethink that one.

That whack would cost more next month with the new price for the distracted driving law.
