im sure some of you recall that fake wood paneling stuff that pretty much every basement rec room would have been done in back in the day, can that stuff still be bought? i have a trailer im building for the flea markets and i want to sheet the inside with that stuff. any ideas?
One thing falling over or bumping against it and you'll break through. If you just want to line the trailer, I'd suggest 3/8 OSB. It's cheaper than paneling and tougher and more weather resistant.
Are you referring to a camping type trailer or one to put parts in . as stated more the once between me and my brothers one of us would find are head stuck through that stuff . But it would serve the purpose as a light paneling for a camper .
Millwork in Oshawa sells the exact same panelling that's currently used in new trailers. It comes in white and is made from hardboard with a textured vinyl coating. They also sell connecting and corner trim.
its a multi purpose, looks like camper but most of the back will be the cargo area with a sleeping quarter at the front. I would like to keep the weight down so perhaps some ply half way up the wall in the back for durability but then something light on the ceiling and walls. this camper was used as a spare bedroom at a cottage so It was like a drywalled room on wheels and it was given to me. they gutted it so all that's left is the bare stud walls and ceiling and 3/4 ply on the floor. im simply putting two doors at the back and keeping it camper looking as to not arouse the suspicion and suspecting glares of the police/mto. its will be like a top secret smugglers trailer. I might even wear an eye patch while im towing it.
It is absolutely still available. It is 1/8" thick, and as you said, crappy.
If you want a wood panel, and can handle a little more weight, I would suggest mahogany plywood - underlay. One coat of varnish and it will look amazing! - no grooves, and a lot stronger!

I bought a sheet of that at Rona last year. Had to do a small repair in my 5th wheel. About $40/sheet

They even sell those little plastic "flower" looking things that the screw goes in to fasten it to the studs. I just realized that Millwork in Oshawa was bought out by Rona, so hopefully they still carry it. Millwork was a great store to be able to purchase those oddball items that no one else carried.
Lauan plywood comes in 4x8 sheets, and 1/8 and 1/4 thickness. Inexpensive compared other plywood. You see it used inside cargo trailers on the walls all the time. It's a Philippine mahogany, Used to see used as the door skin for interior house doors.
If your looking for that 60's/70's cheap fake wood panelling try a recycle/recovery yard. The guys that strip out old homes and resell the used parts. There's one in Newcastle about 1 Kilometer East of the 115 on the Third Concession. Problem is, that stuff looked so $hitty even THEY may not keep it!
By the way, when you load the back of your camper thing with your valuables how do you keep the balance forward for the tongue weight? Beer?
cases of rum. i calculate how much hoard i have then i offset it with cases of rum. i of course have to dispose of the rum after, dont want too much tongue weight you know

There are a bunch of stores called the "Re-Store"....they sell recycled building supplies and fixtures and the like...We have one here, there is another in Barrie....I think they are a chain.
We have a Habitat For Humanity restore in Cobourg. It is a place that sells donated material .The only problem seems to be they sell the stuff for more than it goes for at a normal retail outlet.I needed a dozen flourescent ballasts and went there to see if they had any. They did but they were selling them for $2 more than the local Rhona hardware . I've used old election signs which are 1/8" corrugated and painted them with latex, the large ones ( 3'x5')work good and are very light, also it's the only thing politicians are good for !

Hope you waited till after the election was over,,,heavy fine if you do it before,,just sayin,,O ya you said old,,like me.......never mind..
went to home depot today, that paneling is 34 dollars a sheet, 1/8 chip board, 8 dollars a sheet, I didn't even know you could buy chip board that thin.
Just finished ripping the rec room apart and about a month ago got rid of about 20 sheets of that panneling . Wish i had of known. I,d rather someone used it instead of going to the dump.
