I had it happen to my daily driver 3 years ago. It needed a new windshield for a safety. I got a stone chip the same week after the new one was installed! They resin filled it, but you can still see it, quite obvious, but it's on the passenger side. In the last 3 years since....nothing. Go figure!

after reading your trials on your trip I am pretty sure the pics of those vehicles you posted are the ones that went through what you did and said FFFFFFit I give up and left them and took train or bus.chamber of commerce made them move them out of sight.bad pr come west if you dare and leave your money, vehicle, behind
I think this thread jinxed me Johnny.....Going down the QEW and a cement truck threw something up....it hit my back window and blew it out.....cant figure how that happens...he was passing me going about 100.
Poncho that has to suck it reminds me of my 73 corvette back a few decades that a gravel truck did the same thing to me I was ready for blood followed the truck to their yard took a strip off him then the dispacher came out and said settle down I may have something for you as he was looking at my car, told me to follow him turns out he sold his vette but still had the aftermarket glass t-tops! told me I could have them if I stopped chewing out his driver so I said I said I was sorry to both of them and took the tops we have been friends ever since I'm not sure how this story is suppose to make you feel better but at least I hope it makes you smile
Don't take it to personal ..Every time I have been out west I came home with a bad winshield, and I had to one replaced in Alberta ..Alberta is the the winshield replacement capital on Canada..
Hey guys.....In 45 years driving, I have never had to have a windshield replaced (in my case, rear window)....BTW, there is also a chip on the front window I noticed today. ....Do I have to call my insurance company when I take it in, or does the glass guy do all the paperwork?...Just wonderin'
I figure with 40+ years with the same insurance co, they owe me one.........I know I am naive
I understand, but I don't think the insurance company thinks that way. It shouldn't cost any more than a couple hundred bucks to replace it. You may want to save that claim for something a bit more costly if it ever happens. My 2 cents
I would pay it out of my own pocket. Should be easy to source one from a wreckers. They will get it back out of you one way or another.IMO
I too am not a fan of having any dealings with insurance companies (as far as putting in a claim goes). We paid out of pocket twice to have windshields replaced (with new glass) from an auto glass installer. Far as I can recall, the "oh, you're not going through your insurance? Here's your cost then" was around $200, of course I'm sure that varies with the type of vehicle the windshield is for.
It sucks when you don't use the insurance you have been paying for years, but I just don't think it's worth the risk of putting in a claim and suffering down the road when the insurance deems you a risk and raises your rates.
Am I paranoid? Not that I'm aware of .......... Why? Is someone following me?
Chips can usually be filled. They are normally paid by the insurance company. It's cheaper than a windshield for them. Cash price is about $50
Windshields I have sen replaced lately run about $300 depending on model of course.
Check your insurance first. Deductible went up to $300 a few years ago with out any notification unless you told them other wise.
