Hi all been a lurker for a year or two and with a subtle nudge from stroker decided I should join.  My latest project is a 49 chev 3100.  Just got it on the road two weeks ago and have been smiling ever since!  Have a few other cars too but this truck is so much fun right now.  Hope to learn lots and have fun.

Hi Dale,
Nice to see you here. I remember back in the day when we caught a light heading East on Dundas out in front of Firestone heading towards the dealership. I was in my shortbox, you were in a Grey TPI 'Bird IIRC, it had a 5 speed so I'm assuming it was a 305. I got the holeshot and had 1/4-1/2 a length on you, but I was afraid of the cops that sometimes sat across the road in the Midas parking lot, so I shut her down in 2nd gear. If we were at the strip, you would have cleaned my clock for sure. That truck ran great 60 ft's 1.9's-2.0's, but past the 1/8th mile, didnt do so well. Thats where your F-body would shine.
The 454SS truck guys hated that truck. The 1990 454SS's were rated at 230hp/385 lb/ft torque with the th-400 trans and 3.73 gears in the 14 bolt rear, the 91-93's got the 255hp/405lb/ft torque version and the OD 4l80e and 4.10 rear gears. My 97 with the L31 Vortec 350 was rated at 255hp/330lb/ft and came with 3.08's. I had the lighter 4l60e trans and 10 bolt rear, plus the BBC to SBC weight difference. Stock I would sit rightbeside a stock 90 SS, and be slightly behind a 91 SS. I went to 4.10 gearing and PCM recalibration and that was that. Those SS's are a beautiful truck though. No 1/2 ton truck like a 88-98 GMT-400 IMO.
I remember back in the day always bothering the salesmen about the LS1 4th gens that were on the. I just about pulled the trigger on a 30th Anniversary Trans Am, but they were going over list, couldnt justify it. Your Sisters 98 SS is a beauty.

Take care Dale.

Paul

I gotta say, I love the colour.  Was that an available OEM colour for 1949?  Any idea what it was called?

I worked for Doug on the farms for a season.  I went to school and was friends with the farms manager Dennis Buckrell kids. I see Doug sometimes when I go out for Saturday breakfasts at the 230 truckstop.
