I spent last weekend celebrating the marriage of my neice and visiting my brother. From Aylmer (west, there is two) resulted in a 3.5 hr speed dash,401 to 407 then an up and down short cut west to the 115, then  to Duro/ Dummer 3rd line Aspoldel (spelling) and the farm. Not one cop! We left the farm for Pembrooke and took a short cut like road rally route to Bancroft and then his lodge (OLD read needs repair) near Barrys Bay for a short look see, 1200 feet lake frontage, taxes are as much as I pay here(Aylmer) a year. Love the North. Pembrooke. Stayed @ the Holiday Inn Express. Walked over to the Irvings Truck stop to have supper and saw my FIRST Monarch Butter Fly! this far N E !The wedding was fantastic! This generation does it Differently for sure

It rained all the way home Sunday.Left @ 6 am home before 1 pm.Saw more wild life than you could shake a stick at up there and the quiet.smile Found that short cut back to the 407(conn 8 through Tyrone, nice place ) Saw one opp on #41 going south then 2 more on the 401 coming home)

The 407 has some ****ty spots when raining;these areas form steams to drain away and then cause hydro planeing when hit.All in all it was an enjoyable trip. If I could do it again fellows and lady's, I would have moved north right after highschool to live in the "Land 'O Lakes" .Now,if I could convince my wife! smile

Been up that way a few times. I agree with you on the beauty of the country up there. The saying "Gods Country" really applies.

Been up here 42 years now, moved up in june/72. would never leave, a whole different lifestyle up here.
Amazing the people i've talked to over the past years that have moved up into this area from S.Ontario.
They all say the same, "Should have done this years ago".

Third line of Asphodel, heck you were a mere three or so miles from Seeker 1056 ( Ken Currie) place with his 1965 Mercury Gasser truck.
You should have stopped in to see his progress...

Born and raised in the GTA, made the move 10 yrs ago and I think I timed it ok. It's beautiful, great communities that have your back. Job market is soft (isn't it everywhere?) and very seasonal but if you are ready to work you can. My taxes are on par with what I paid south for less services BUT I also traded a postage stamp lot for 4 acres, bigger house and a shop. I can live with that.

Even on the worst day I can end it listening to the wolves howling, a beautiful sunset followed by a star filled sky.

Tried to make a change, but life got in the way. Bought 150 acres just outside of Hearst ON 16 years ago. Spent a lot of time and money getting it ready for a new home, shop etc. Had a business plan in place the whole works. Then the wheels feel off everything and have just been coasting along in a wait and see mode. Right time, right place, a couple of bad unplanned situations sprung up and to top it all off, bad health. Might still make something happen but on a greatly reduced scale. Still have a foot in the door. The attitude and pace is like 25 to 30 years ago. Absolutely love being there.

I did the same, except from the GLA. Paid a little more but got a nice sized 2.5 acres and paid less propety tax! It's pretty close to London too!

There is a member on this board who is near to relocating up here, soon as his transfer comes through.
He tells me that 3 of his co-workers have already made the move up, and are very happy with the area.

Most everybody knows that Ontario's population drops dramatically once you go East of Oshawa . I have the incredibly good fortune to live 12 feet from the edge of Upper Rideau Lake ( Westport ) , the summit lake of the UNESCO World Heritage Waterway and it REALLY IS a corner of Heaven . Very thinly populated , but still all the amenities of life -- The Down-side -- Most of the " Heavy Cruising " is WEST of Oshawa ,or at least Belleville , but I can still get all I can handle -- If you have a trailer , I have parking space -- Consider yourself welcome for a visit -- LATER -- DON / fleet 51

Not me. I like the north for short periods but any longer too boring. I like the conveniences of southern Ontario and the multitude of car related activities plus close to the car scene in Mich. and N.Y state. Be thankful there is people who think like me or it would become as populated as the GTA.

What is a gasser ?  I looked at old pics and see AA/G  A/G B/G etc.  Then i looked around the net and find that they raced in pounds per Cu In .   Then there were MP cars, A/MP B/MP and so on.   Are the cars of today real gas class cars or just want-a-be's ?

I imagine just like every other trend that started on the drag strip. There are those that meet tech at the strip and others that emulate the look in spirit for the street. Gassers, altered, pro-street, etc.etc.
