Heating the shop

I have a 1200 sq.ft. shop as well as a 800 sq.ft. thermal pane green house.  I heat each very successfully with a big Maxx 80K BTU suspended heater.  I just noticed that TSC have these heaters on special for $600 this week.  If you are looking for a way to heat your work space, I highly recommend this unit.  It can be vented through the wall an runs on either gas or propane.

I'm running a "HOT DAWG" unit heater similar to this on natural gas for my shop & very pleased with the unit, 900 sq. ft. & does the job!!! Started out with a corn furnace but auger timer broke & had to "junk" it as no parts were available for my brand. It's worked great but storage for corn was a problem when buying it in "bulk" Pete

Pete

Just curious, I've heard tell of these corn furnaces but have never seen one. How do they work, do they burn the kernel or the husk? You say there is an auger, is there a hopper you fill with fuel and it is automatically fed into the combustion chamber?

Thanks
Warren

i plan on using a pellet stove. cost-wise it's about the same as burning wood but without all the work and mess.

Corn stove & wood pellet stove operate the same. Corn kernels have to be "cleaned & dry"  the heat off of them is "UNREAL" & all you get in bottom of fire box is a hard "clinker" if burning properly about 2" square & you can "flip" it out even with stove still burning {if your good]

one of the best stoves I've ever seen work was made from an old oil furnace tank

door cut into one end , simple rack tossed in that sat above the curve at the bottom of the tank and a stovepipe out and up from the end opposite the door

dirt cheep and threw enough heat to make a small industrial unit nice and toasty in mid febuary

though thinking now I'd wanna be sure to wash the hell outta the inside before I tryed to light it for the first time as the old oil fumes would probably burn really fast and make it more bomb than heater ...

i made an outdoor incinerator from an old oil furnace tank, first couple of fires looked like the hagersville tire fire.

I picked up that Big Max 80k Btu a few years ago when it was on sale. I believe they come set up for Propane and need the conversion kit if your going to run it on Natural gas as I did. My shop is 24 x30 and heats easily and Quickly with this heater. I set the thermostat at 60 and it goes up a few degrees past that when it soaks. I find if I set it higher than 60 it gets too hot. LOL.
Lots of heat and reasonable to run. No muss no fuss.

I would highly recommend this one.
