Living out in the sticks can be a pain for internet. No DSL or cable out here, so we have to go with satellite or cellular. I have been with Rogers cellular for a few years now, but the cost is getting ridiculous ($150 this month)...I am looking at Xplornet fixed wireless service that they are pushing now. Its not satellite, which we had before and it sucked in bad weather. It is like cellular, but not movable. Anyone else using this, and how is it in bad weather?

I have it through Kingston Online Service, it works ok but it's also not super high speed. They put a small dish on my TV tower that points towards their tower. The nice part is "they own it" and if it breaks it's their's.

I've been using Xplornet for about 10 years now. First up in the Burnt River area north of Fenelon Falls and now down in Westlake south of Picton. We generally run about 5Mps which is certainly faster then satellite or dial up but not the speed of Rogers. We run off a tower maybe 10 miles away and get terrific service. We have had a couple of outages over the years but the speed remains constant. It does not seem user load affected. Download speed allows us to comfortably go into any web site. I am constantly viewing Ontario Rodders, Canadian Rodders and the HAMB and viewing pictures and videos without any problem. My wife is on it constantly with her I-phone and never has a problem. We pay $52.99 plus tax for 20GB and have never gone over. Since we just switched to Shaw cable, we will now get an additional 5% discount.

anything but bell - it stinks. when the new place is finished we'll be investigating shaw and nexicom. choices are limited here in our neck of the woods too.

Didn't bring warm clothes as last yr was HOT!!! Pete

Thanks guys...Seems it is a moot point anyways...The sales guy called me back and I am in a fringe area, which means to me that the reception will be iffy. He suggested satellite, but I have had that before and it was not very good. Guess Rogers wins....and takes my money

As for Bell......I want nothing to do with them either......

Wish my cable bill was only 150. I have Cogeco phone, internet, and cable and my latest bill was $186. I am looking for something else as my bill goes up and down every month. My biggest complaint is the channel selection I have. My channels go up to 1000 and about 900 of them are no use to me at all. the movie channels I get are just one repeat after another never anything new . You get the decent movie channel if you pay extra,,, as if 180 isn't enough. The cable companies are just one big ripoff and there is not much we can do about it. I put them in the same class as the Oil companies.

$186 is not bad for TV, internet and phone......Out here in God's country, I pay $116 for Shaw satellite TV, $70 for cell phone (no land line, hate Bell) and averaging $120-$150 for the cellular internet...add em up...The good life aint cheap....lol

Well ,I have to agree with everyone on Bell. I tried them before I went with Cogeco and they were the reason I went with Cogeco. I got nothing but attitude from their phone reps.

Nexicom if you can get it, is the best, as they are the only provider that has unlimited usage for a fixed fee of under $60 a month

I think it was August I signed up with Bell unlimited usage for $41 a month for two years.
Before we moved here we had to use the HUB it was kind of expensive..

Same here, Xplornet for around ten years and love the service, couple of minor blips over the years and a cable failure are the only "ever" issues.. Kids use it for Netflix and the net constantly and we have never been dissapointed.

I was on the HUB as well for about a mth. got my 1st. bill & nearly croaked!!! Cost me $100 to get out of the contract!!! 1st. bill was close to $200!!!!!!they sure do sucker you in when on the phone & not knowing how many "what ever they call them" you use it's a crap shoot!!! So far Explorenet is running about $70 per mth. Old server here in town was around $50 unlimited usage, but if it went down after 4 pm or on the wknd. there was nobody there until Monday or the next week day!!!! No help either if you had a problem. Tech. service was non-existent!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I've been with Cogeco here in the county ,outside the Windsor area ...yes I'm paying about $185 mo. for internet/tv/phone ( cable )but I have the top internet package . Their service has been top notch since we started . When I had Bell/Simpatico with the satellite , the tv connection went down easily with any approaching rain ....always when I wanted to watch something special , it seemed .

When we dropped our land line from Bell, they kept calling us to offer us a better deal if we keep the land line. Eventually they had us down to $9.00/ month, so I had to ask " After 30+ years of paying over $25.00 (Just a tick over $40.00 near the end), why is it only now that I can get service for only $9.00 - why not all along?"

Yes, when we quit bell, the prices would drop if we returned. Not in this lifetime. Stay away from them ! !
