We're taking all our food production land and resources to turn corn into fuel so we can have flex-fuel and E85 which sells at the same price as gas and yet we are giving up 30, 40 50% of our mileage. I found the chart below published by the EPA interesting.
By the way, what's with gas prices, I paid 96.9 on Friday on the Rez and it is 1.03 in town. Lovin' it.
JUST
CRAP" Gas is all I can say!!! Started using "NON ethanol" from the Scugog reserve 8 mths ago & mileage went up at least 3 to 4 MPG in my 2010 Suburban, use it my lawn equipment & snow blower & it stopped the 'water" in gas problem & no start in winter due to said water & frozen gas lines + use SEA FOAM as a back UP!!! AVOID Ethanol at all costs it's the $hits

I'm not sure about buying gas on the Rez ? It's cheaper, but, a friend of mine filled up there and put in more fuel than his tank could hold. Well that's what the pump said. Is it cheaper ???
Go take a peak at the E85 vs E0 power stats. Nice little bump in power and torque with E85.
No one is starving from using some corn to make fuel. Winterblend E85 is no where near 85% ethanol. Too much ethanol causes poor starting.
Comparing E10 to E85 is like comparing apples to oranges. The issue with high percentage ethanol is that we are forced to burn it in engines that also have to run on gasoline. Build an engine for exclusive E85 usage and look out.
3-4 mpg on a Suburban would have to be approaching 25%, maybe more depending on true mileage.
i convinced my wife to start buying ethanol free regular from the station i use at the curve lake reserve. she tells me she has picked up about a quarter tank with her rav4.

I just returned from Nashville Tn. where gas was 2.95 for hi test and 2.55 for 87 octane unleaded. My mileage went from about 12L/ 100 km to 8-9L/100 km. We drove a 2009 Avalanche 5.3L Chev. The gas prices there were reflective of the falling price of crude unlike here where we are still getting gouged due to the greed of the oil companies and our government.
last time oil was around $65 a barrel pump fuel was in the 55-65 cent range with no ethanol - and this week it is in the $65 a barrel range and we are still paying 1.13 per litre with 10% ethanol which allegedly makes the fuel even cheaper to supply
anyone who believes the hipe from the media on the poor ol suppliers taking a beating isn't paying attention that's for sure
especially the woe is me crap about how the oil sands will have to shut down - they were doin just fine back in 04 when oil was less per barrel
An wise economist told me several years ago that for Canada's economy to really thrive, we need a .90 dollar, a .90 litre and a $90 barrel of oil. The barrel could go back up to $90 and the price of gas could still be at .90 and a slight adjustment of the dollar will be the icing on the cake. Gas at the Rez today was 92.9.
I gassed up on Sunday at the pioneer gas bar on Hwy 6 at Carlisle Rd., 99.9/L. The news reports say gas prices are going down due to the low price of crude. I checked the same gas bar yesterday , 100.9/L. Whats with that????
Gas in Fort Erie 2 weeks ago 102.9 , today 105.9 to 109.9. Welcome to Canada.
guys tell you what, i drove for esso years ago out of finch ave on the big trains, so i know a little about the industry. a good friend of mine in brighton owned a fair sized, for this area, fuel delivery business and sold and delivered loads and loads of gas onto the shannonville rez up to a couple of years ago till he sold. if you think that the fuel was ethanol free have i got some swamp land for you. it came out of the same tank farm here in belleville as any other gas came down the pipe line. the rez in scugog might have a shot at it cause the trucks would be out of toronto where they have big storage facilities to store the leaded gas. -today the cost of production for leaded would be more than the unleaded as the big boys would be set up for the mixing and to run minimal amounts of leaded would cost more. even though the rez's have a tax free advantage they are still going to buy the cheaper one. - just thinking out loud.
-also one of the girls from my office was stopped last weekend coming off the rez and was issued a warning about the 2 cartons of cigs she had just bought and were sitting on the seat in a bag. they didn't fine her but told her that it would of cost so much per cigarette when they start pushing it. how they plan on stopping the gas buying i don't know but something will come up. our provincial gov is bankrupt and they are starting to plug up the holes.

I always thought the “flex fuel” rating on many newer vehicles was useless in Canada since no gas stations, at least around here, seemed to sell anything except 10% ethanol gas, not the higher ratio gas that these vehicles are designed for. However, today I saw a local station advertising “flex fuel E30” which I assume means 30% ethanol, at 2 cents/litre cheaper than regular. Something new or am I not paying attention?

Like Rick said, our P. Government is broke and we are going to pay. We have an Ethenol plant in Aylmer and the closest E85 station is in Sarnia? Please correct me if wrong. Our pumps are still 104.9 . It's ALL about money and the strings the 'Corporations pull' on Politicians to do the best for THEM! Just like the Auditor Generals report on Hydro when will the 1% realize they NEED the 99% enough said

I have only ever been on 2 reservations that I can remember.....the one at Sauble Beach and at Rama (wife likes to gamble a bit, OK a lot).....The gas at those 2 are never cheaper that I could see. Rama is actually more expensive than in Orillia. Do you have to go off the main road or something?
I also have a friend in the gas/oil business....He says that you never know what is in the tanks...If Shell runs low, they buy some from Esso etc......CTC, Pioneer and the other independents will buy whats cheapest
The rez I go to is Hwy 49 just south of the 401. There are about a dozen gas bars ranging from above ground tanks to full service with inground tanks. The particular station I use has above ground tanks and they are filled daily by a very reputable local fuel supply company. I have never had any problem with their product. Diesel was 89.9 there yesterday. Since I travel that way several times a week and at 100L per fill up, that $10 saving is nice.
where i buy my gas in curve lake there is definitely no ethanol, we tested it. they have float planes come in to fuel up so i am confident putting in my vehicles.

your on the money with you don't know whats in the tank. i know the tank farm here in belleville is esso and maybe shell but all the trucks loading are delivering to all station brands in this area. one real big wholesaler around here is ultramar brand and he loads from the same farm as the rest but the refinery is in montreal. the line flows one way, west to east.
Scugog Reservation uses "Marine Gas" [so I was told] & have tested it at the local tractor dealer, NO ETHANOL in it!!!!! As for the "Smokes" the ones there all have a "Gov. seal on the pkgs. so no worries on leaving with them, taxes are being paid [$39 carton]but was told going up again due to more taxes being applied!!!

When I hauled fuel out of Finch area in TO the code you punched into the loading computer added the "Blends" for that product. I hauled to OLCO Stations out of ESSO yard & "supposedly!!! that load did not have the additives that ESSO stations got??? Can't see why it's not the same with "Marine" grade, fuel???? Ethanol could be added at the "Blend" as I'm sure it's not put in at the refineries??? Could be "wrong" [for the 1st. time this year] Pete

What is the origin of the "bag cigs". I knew someone who used to buy cigarettes by the bag from the Rez near Port Perry. Are they cigarettes that have been brought over from the States, in the middle of the night, using a fast boat, somewhere around Cornwall usually (I can understand those being illegal as the duties weren't paid) or are they cigarettes that the residents of the reserve made themselves from local tobacco?
Saw a program on W5 one time about cigarette manufacturing and it took place on certain reservations. I think the smuggled one's were name brands. Don't think that happens big time any more. There are drive thru cigarette vendors on the rez and I see a dozen cartons along with a few bags going into a single car all the time. One courier picking up for all his buddies back in town.
The bag smokes are locally produced cigs. Anyone who now deals in loose leaf tobacco has to register and take a course. This will help to fight illegal suppliers dealer of raw leaf tobacco. And if it doesnt, it will bring in some money for the gov.
I used to get those bag cigs for $10 a bag, now from a store teh cheaper brands are like $65 a carton(200 cigs) with popular brnads like what was knoiwn as Players/Dumaurier/Export are around $10-$12 a pack or $80-$100 a carton.
There are 3 or 4 large and I mean large factories producing smokes south of Brantford That sell world wide. The days of smuggling are long gone. If any of you have ever been to Oswego speed way in the early 80s it was a run down old house the garage had a 2x4 holding the door open and buddy had two saw horses with another old door on top as a table to sell smokes . The speedway thats there now is the same guys hobby track. my guess would be this one res is running in the hundreds of millions each year in smokes alone.
As Hog posted, a carton of name brand smokes in the store is running $65 and up.
The cheapest native cigs are $24.00 for a carton. Identical smokes, perfect packaging, So that is $41.00 difference for a carton. So who is collecting the extra $41.00 off the thousands of cartons sold???
