Post office here doesn't sort outgoing mail here anymore, so local letters mailed here in town go to Hamilton to be sorted and then come back to town to be but in your box.
Can't figure out why they lose money

I don't think a Union has anything to do with where the mail is sorted.

I know it is strange but somehow it probably makes sense, just not to us!!

Oddest story of the Post Office that I have heard is a guy who sent a registered letter. Two weeks later he gets a notice to pick up a registered letter. Sure enough it is his own letter and it is marked as having "insufficient postage". That one I cannot explain.

For three days straight we get nothing but junk mail. We are waiting for bills that need to be paid and it's Christmas, where are the Christmas cards? Then all of a sudden we get 22 pieces of mail in one day! Very frustrating.

never really had an issue with C P

BUT .. it amuses me how the same people who jump the ditch , stomp up the lawn , eventually wearing a path into it , stomp through the gardens , over the rockery and through the bushes demand a nice neat shoveled path to the house

Oddly, i too used to have problems with Canada post,, But,, over the past ?? 18 months or so, i have had no problems,,, the mails service has been amazingly quick.
Used to take 8-12 days to send mail 300 miles, now it is there in 3-4 days. (I have had a couple that arrived in only two days!!)

I us Canada Post exclusively for the items I sell on eBay and have never had a problem.  I also require that any items I buy off of eBay are shipped USPS, which means the item will be handled by Canada Post once it crosses the border ... again, never had a problem.

Everything I ship using Canada Post is insured for loss, in the event that it goes missing, gets stolen, gets destroyed etc. and insurance is very reasonable too.

BTW theft of items during shipping is in no way confined to Canada Post.  Someone I used to know got caught after stealing THOUSANDS of dollars worth of packages from Purolater Courier, and he wasn't the only one busted at that time.

I just paid $20 to have a book mailed to the UK (book cost me $15 to buy), and paid $25 to have a letter mailed my xpresspost to California. I had mailed 50 letters out the week before to people around the world. ( Canada,USA, UK,(Britain,Ireland,Scotland,Norway,Sweden) and Australia. The people in the UK, got their mail first over anyone !!!! There are still some in the USA who have yet to receive it 2 weeks later. Also Canada post stopped doing registered mail with USA. Yet they do xpresspost that requires a signature (scratch head). The line ups at the post office are long and now its a buck to mail in Canada. So if someone sends yous a card from a friend. Know they went though effort, time and money to send it. :)

Purolator is canada post...... that where the screw-ups get promoted to.

Paid too much and have no fear of losing their union jobs, no incentive to care.

Fire them all and contract it out to the Jehovah's Witnesses, they come to my door everyday with flyers...

I've got lots of horror stories about Canada Post but my worst one was a few years ago.
I have rural delivery at home, but my business was in town.
When I started the business 20 years ago, I went to the Post Office to set up my mail delivery (the village has P.O. Boxes)
The Postmaster says they don't have any P.O.Boxes to give me ,would I be ok with them delivering my business mail to the house. I say that would be great.
15 years later ,I get a general notice in my mail that went to every mailbox about making sure you have correct address' on all your mail, I don't think anything of it.
A couple of weeks later,I realize I haven't gotten any business mail for a few days which was very unusual.
I go to the post office, new bitch Postmaster informs me that they sent all my business mail back to the senders because it wasn't addressed properly.
I tell her that it hasn't been an issue for 15 years why now and that this wasn't my idea to deliver to my house ,it was previous Postmaster.
She basically says she doesn't give a rats ass and that I should take it up with the previous Postmaster who is now retired and living somewhere on PEI.
I ask her if she has a P.O. Box for my business, she says no.
Just a facking nightmare of a c^nt to deal with.
She agreed to hold my mail for a short time at the counter.
I was in a contracting business and most of my payments came by mail, she funking near ruined me, I had to spend a couple of days picking up cheques and my customers were confused as to why the cheques were returned.
It took me 3 months to sort this **** out, but what amazed me was once I phoned and talked to her superiors and Ombudsman, they could get me a P.O. Box
I find out I wasn't the only one with issues, she pissed off half the village in one way or another.
She even sent some of my home mail back because it had RR1 on it instead of the street address.
I ask her what address she wants on it because my road has 4 different names on it according to which Government dept you talk to.
My blood still boils when I think of this douche
They finally fired her last year, I've never been so happy to see someone lose a job

Yea Doug you need to cut out Canada Post altogether and go direct deposit. I read something on a CRA notice that they are not going to be mailing any checks for income tax refunds so you might as well get hooked up now.

Merry Christmas my friend. Best to all.

The Government of Canada is switching from cheques to direct deposit for all government payments. Has nothing to do with using the Post Office, it's just good financial management. We use direct deposit for everything, insurance payments, CPP, OAS or e-mail transfers for payments to others. There is no missed dead line, the money is there when promised. No more 'the cheque is in the mail'.
I did send out about 6 boxes by post to both Canada and the US. I always look for the least expensive way and every one arrived within the week. I ordered a part from Utah on the 5th of Dec. I haven't received it yet as of the 24th. Here is the tracking history. By the way, this is a $10 piece in a bubble envelope. Pretty poor service getting to customs.

You know why postage is so expensive in Canada? you need to pay for storage. I've got one of those new mailboxes where you need to walk a couple of blocks to get your mail. I'm sure that's just Canada trying to keep us fit, but I hardly ever get mail on Monday or Friday. I think the delivery person (Mailman/woman?) takes a long weekend just about every week.

We still have boxes at the General/convenience store here, as well as the neighborhood boxes.
All I can say is, I know they (Canada Post) pays Really good money, to have the boxes at the convenience store, so likely they are paying a premium also for the neighborhood boxes real estate.

the next 'cost cutting measure' will be for us to pick up our mail at the postal outlet, go to the sorting center and finally we will have to go to the sender to get our mail
