the company that runs the boots and heart deal bought burls in november, this week they got the speedway, not sure about the flea markets future, but it seem,s the speedway may be done, sunset speedway has announced a drivers meeting for the barrie guys, not sure how far apart the rules are, but that is what the meeting is about.
It would be difficult for Boots and Hearts to have a Music Festival with a race track next door. All I can say is there must be money in the music festival industry.

Yeah, the noise on saturday nights would mess up hearing the weeping and wailing music!
There where a few differences between Barrie and Sunsets rules, but only minimal as occaisionaly there would be rain at one or the other, so a few towed to the other track that wasn't rained out. Should be interesting as there were a few grudge racers at both tracks that wouldn't run with the other guy . Just hoping Sunset can accomodate everyone, which i'm sure they will. This is actually very good for Sunset.
Barrie track closing, Mosport closed their stock car track a couple of years back ... is this the beginning of the end for grass roots stock car racing in Ontario?
So there are well over 900 car guys and gals on this site. I am reading a lot of comments about the closing of Barrie speedway. Just wondering honestly how many actually participated or attended a stockcar race or drag race last summer. I don't mean watched on TV or some other electronic device, I mean actually got out of the house and went to a track. I'll start with myself, I attended 2 stockcar races and participated in 2 Armdrop dragrace events last summer. Pretty sad I agree. Ed
Last year I was at the very least 18 stock car events in Southern Ontario and plan to do the same this coming year. The tracks may be getting fewer every year but the action is heating up at the tracks that still run weekly shows.

Heard rumor today that the Limited Late models will all run same rules and will travel from the remaining tracks on rotating basis. Delaware, Sauble, sunset, Peterborough, Flamborough.
I believe Kawartha is only for special events (OSCAAR, etc, ) and no weekly racing is done there anymore.
Anyone else heard the same? Not sure if they will run ACT rules, but would make sense to get some American drivers up for some specials.

These tracks will still run their weekly races but the series that is starting is an eight race series that is over and above the regular weekly shows. It will amalgamate both Limited Late Model and Pro Late Models.
OSCAAR will not be at Kawartha this year and the weekly racing is done. You might see a Nascar race this season.

The Kawartha track was one of the best to watch Supermodified Racing (ISMA). Scary to stand at the fence and watch them come uphill at you out of corner.
last season, no unable to. this season yes. this year if all goes well with both houses i'd like to run O.N.D.R. points.
We ran the full season at Peterboro finishing fourth in points in the mini stock division and also ran specials at Sunset and Flamboro. Now getting ready for 2015.

So (if I am reading another post correctly) there is no more weekly racing at Kawartha. Might as well ad them to the list of recently closed tracks.
haven,t been to a local track , Sunset or barrie in yrs . Kinda like people that live in Orlando fla , and can,t quite find the time to get to the ocean on the week end . But I get to Cayuga 2 times a yr an st Thomas once a yr ..77.

According to an article in today's edition of the Innisfil Journal, Mark Dilley [owner of Sunset Speedway and
at one time owned Barrie Speedway] is "scrambling to accommodate race car fans and drivers".
Apparently Barrie Speedway was the only NASCAR-sanctioned track, now Dilley "has a chance
to get a green flag for a NASCAR partnership". "I race in NASCAR myself, I know them all and
we talk about it. We've been talking for a few years, he said".
According to the paper, "Burl's Creek spokesman Ryan Howes said the company doesn't plan to keep
the racetrack. He added there are plans to make land improvements through the grounds,
which include the speedway footprint. The spring and fall automotive flea markets will still happen this year.
We had debated the future use of the property [racetrack] and it's unfortunate [we have to close it] but it was
what we had to do with the growth of the venue itself."

I wonder what the plans actually are for the complete property. There sure wasn't much of anything permanent built on the fleapit property last time I was there, and just the fleapit property was quite large just on its own. What could they possibly be building that they feel the need to demolish the race track for extra space?
I talked to Lisa Haney this week and they sold the property to Boots and Heart but not the flea markets. They are still going to run the spring and fall meets. She said the "footprint" of the meet will change and sounds like the first couple of rows will be moved back so not sure what they are doing on the property.
With so many venders pulling out they can fill in some of the vacancy's from the first few rows. They did that when they closed the Orange field then again then they closed large blocks in the back end. I hear rumblings of Lindsay going to host a large car show on the Sunday with sponsors the whole deal. I wonder if Barrie is making room up front for the same thing. The only difference is Lindsay is not down sizing same guy told me the large stadium is now full and the grounds is at 90% capacity. I think it is a good idea rather than sit in a lawn chair behind your car you have a flea market you can go through making it two venues for the price of one. As long as Haney does not finance your car for the admission price as he is known to.

I wonder for "how long" the flea Mrkt' will last. as one post says it will still be on for "this year"???? I think they should just "Bury" it, more & more vendors [of car parts] bailing out for Lindsay & other venues. It's lost it's appeal, unless your looking for the jewellery, underwear & socks etc.
