new proposed Vehicle Inspection Standard

Powers at be are revamping our Passenger/Light Duty Vehicle Inspection Standards.  I have the proposed copy that is 97 pages long so I will not post it here but there is no longer a mechanic judgment call on what is acceptable and more documentation on condition. One example what is expectable for a floor rust hole patch so Canadian Tire sales in pop rivets should go down seeing only mig or equivalent is excepted in patches.

MTO is proposing new light-duty inspection standards in place of Schedules 1 and 2 of Ontario Regulation 611 for a Safety Standards Certificate. These standards are posted on the Regulatory Registry for public comment until April 27th and they can be downloaded from the link below. Right now they are dealing only with Schedules 1 and 2 of the regulation and the other Schedules will be done later. They are asking for your comments and suggestions.

There’s a lot of stuff in there and I don’t like most of it, so I’ll be sending in my comments before the deadline. It’s a long read but I think it would be worthwhile for everyone to spend some time on it, especially any of you who are involved with an MTO licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station. Don’t just complain and fuss, read it and send in your comments. It WILL make a difference.

The ricers out there won't like a lot of the changes when it comes time for them to sell.

Rat Rodders, 4X4 trucks, Pro streets, basically all of us.

The Liberals could really make some money if they required the inspections to be done yearly.

13% on every inspection, on every car in Ontario.

And some kid at Canadian Tire gets to drive your car, too.

Nice.

I can see yrly. insp. coming. Lots of 'grey" areas from what I read. Who decides what OEM spec. were or are??? Get a tech. who's having a bad day & your screwed. Floor area repair was an eye opener, is this the Gov. other way of getting the older vehicle send to the wreckers??? More tax collected on cars replacements, new safety's, & repairs to get them passed & more $$$ to pi$$ away on the next scandal !!!!

Its still very similar to the current regulations in force ... just cleaned up the wording in most cases ...

http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/regs/english/elaws_regs_900611_e.htm

I haven't seen mention of having yearly inspections ... YET ... but she has to come up with some 'revenue tools' to pay for their mistakes ... somehow ...

It would be nice if we could trust our elected officials ... especially when they have been granted a majority where they can do ANYTHING they want ...

I didn't vote for them !!!!!!

All good points. While the wording has been cleaned up and the format is simpler, there is a LOT of stuff in there that is very dangerous for rodders, and everyone else for that matter, but I haven’t seen any indication that they want to go to annual inspections. Now that you’ve had a chance to read the proposed standards DO SOMETHING!! Send in your comments in the Regulatory Registry right now. If enough people who know what they’re talking about send in the kind of comments as have already been posted here, maybe they’ll realize they’ve gone too far and make changes. That’s the way it works guys and gals – don’t just complain on a forum like this one, make your voice heard where it counts.

If no one votes for the Liberals how do they keep getting in? Ask your neighbours.

Isn't the Liberal party controlled by most voters in the Toronto area ?

If you confirm that, then theres not much hope of change?

i suggest if you find some wording that you don't like,, post the example here... and with a bunch of eyes and opinions doing the same thing , we can take the examples and put them in a letter to send as a constructive criticism to add,, or amend the draft wording..

some clauses may just need "19xx and older exempt" for example..

they used to have a min reqd list for "KIT CARS" or home builds..  that was 1 pg ,,, I carried it with my drivers license,, so when I did a test drive.. I could show the officer the car met the min reqd by ont laws..  maybe that could be made clear right in the legislation

I love the whole thing about floors. have these morons never seen a replacement floor pan? Its OK for 747's to be held together with rivets but not a floor in a car? Mr DelDuca will be hearing from me as well as my MPP. Not to mention if a garage follows this to the letter a safety should take about 8 hours at the door rate and no car will pass. NICE
