The annual MOT Commercial Vehicle blitz in on this week at the Mohawk Racetrack. They pull vehicles from between HWY 25 in Milton and HWY 6 south along the 401 and from Derry road to the south up to 15 side road to the North.
They have units from all branches of police and Gov. If you get pulled you WILL get fined..for something...anything.
we just had a blitz down this way, belleville area. i don't worry too much about them as i keep my trucks up to snuff. they put a small colored sticker on your windshield, pass side, that is good for 3 months. in saying that here is a new one to me though. one of the guys got pulled over on the 401 near colbourne by the o.p.p. on a saturday and fined 350.00 for not having his pre-trip inspection paperwork. he did have it but it was blurred cause we had put a new toner refill in the copier and it wasn't real clear and being a saturday morning there were no girls in the office to fix it. here is the catch, why was he pulled over by the o.p.p. for a paper work check in the first place. it wasn't for speeding as the truck is choked at 107km. the driver has been incident free for over 20yrs with me so i know he is good at his job. the charge if warranted should of been improper paperwork as it was hard to read but not ineligible. definitely not charged with no paperwork. i am appealing it in cobourg court but since when did the o.p.p. start pulling you for a paperwork check on the 401 when it is more or less an m.t.o. infraction. i have a hard time believing that there were no cars out there at a 140-150km and in and out of traffic like an idiot. this is a first for me in 45 yrs. i guess i will find out sometime early december in court. i do realize they have the authority but since when and why for this stuff.
Not to steal the thread but an acquaintance of mine got charged two weeks ago with an expired validation tag. He forgot all about it and when he told the officer that, the guy said there is 0 tolerance and no excuses. He also got charged with no insurance due to the fact the validation tag had expired and that cancels the insurance as well, he would have to deal with his insurance company to prove otherwise, even though he had produced current insurance. Apparently in the eyes of the law your liability insurance is null and void until such time the vehicle meets standards including validation stickers This is news to me and have never heard of this before. Anyone else hear of this ?
I was told years ago by my insurance agent "that if you plate sticker expired the insurance co. will not cover you because your vehicle is not "legal" for the road. " (like drunk driver not legal to be on the road)
TRANSLATION: we take your cash but look for any reason not to give any back.Any reason not to pay.

same down here also i hear, 0 tolerance. times are changing guys. i remember being told to show my paper work at the station the next day if you didn't have the paper work with you. i do agree 100% with being charged large for having no insurance though. pretty soon there won't be no paper work anyway. just a bar code on your plate that they will scan and everything will be in front of him. bet ya.

So here is the update. So the guy went to court and got off with the no validation sticker because he went out and got one the next day and proved it to the judge. He did get fined without the valid insurance $250.00. Apparently the judge said there is absolutely 0 tolerance when it comes to driving with no insurance and that he could have faced a $5000.00 fine. I would appeal it myself but Don't know if it would be worth the time and effort. Technically if they waived the first charge how could they charge you with the second one.
