Hosed on the current price of oil
Permalink

Remember after the recession a few years back the price of a barrel of crude oil went down to about $50. Then after the recession in the next 5 years when the economy picked up slowly the price of a barrel of oil peaked out at $170 a barrel. During this time period a litre of regular conventional motor oil that you purchased at your local jobber or one of those big box places steadily rose to over $7.00 a litre. In the last year or so oil has steadily declined in price at a rapid rate. Today's oil price, for a barrel of crude is down to $35.21.That is 21% of the $170 price that it was.Has that litre of oil that you purchace today to do an oil change on you car dropped? Answer NO! It is still More than $7 a litre and we are paying just under a buck for a litre of regular gas. Next time you go to buy oil ask them why they are ripping us of on the price!

Ya think it might be because our dollar is in the ****t-r right now, and the price of oil is in U.S dollars. Not only that the government is losing billions on the low price of crude.

Yah and the liberals too, we also have to pay the way for our future citizens that are arriving by the plane load. And to think I have a hard time coughing up enough scratch to pay for my prescriptions each month. No government help for the majority of the low income and regular blue collar folk in this province.

Just think when oil hits $125. a barrel we will be selling our old cars seeing we will not be able to afford a gallon of gas.

wonder what all the homeless in Canada are thinking about the "new citizens" coming into this country and getting all that the homeless hasn't got. I can't watch or listen to the news anymore when they start to report on these new people. I send an email to the liberal party asking them why are the homeless and less fortunate citizens not taken care of first. 3 weeks ago and still waiting for a reply.

Talked to my friend in W.V. this week, asked about price of gas & Rusty said he just 'filled' up at $ 1:22 / gal. Something's 'wrong' with this picture !!!!! Our prices are still going up then down a few cents [but not as much as it went up] & most people think they are getting a "deal" until you point out the rise before the drop, then the 2 watt bulb comes on that were getting "SCREWED" Gov. & Oil Co.s keep coming up with all sorts of excuses saying cost of refinery's, cost of transportation, maintaince BLAH Blaa Bla but won't say we are 'screwing you blind" & your too "dumb" to notice

The only way I can get around it , now that I'm retired , is to make multiple stops / errands when I do go out , and leave the car in the garage the rest of the time . I get about 6 weeks on a tank of gas !! If you are still working , it's a different story .

Ah c,mon fellas . Not nice to rag on the poor unfortunate terr uh immigrants we are welcoming to our country. I think if we were to take up a collection and send them a nice big PORK ROAST or HAM for Christmas they would realise what we think about them arriving here.

Or $2.40 US when it is $1.70 US in Port Huron and probably refined in Sarnia. That is $18.00 CDN more when filling the pickup here. Diesel seems a little more equitable.

Really and truly guys. We need to keep the price of gas up to pay the higher taxes to cover the cost of the 25,000 Muslim's coming to Canada. They are going to need a roof over their head, a new car, food, clothing (burkas do not come cheap), medical expense's, money to send home for the loved ones left behind. It is Christmas open your hearts and wallets for the new westernized Canadians. So stop grumbling the next time you get ripped off when you fill up at the pump. Where do you think federal and provincial governments get their cash from? Mike and his buddy's do not get all of it.

I should also mention when they showed the new arrivals there was an older lady in a push wheel chair. She should be given free a power one and not be discriminated against by having to push her self around.

even at 83.9 that's $3.82 a Imp. Gal in 'real" measure![don't do metric] & a "long" way from what our US cousins are paying at the pumps!!!! tired of "bending" over the barrel & soaping up, to get screwed without a kiss or a dinner!!!!

Those sneaky poles just jump out in front ya, especially in the Summer when the roads aren't ice and snow covered.

You're paying why ? Jus wondering.

Taxes are pretty well fixed on gas regardless of the price so I don't see a lot more going back to the province although they do get more then their fair share making Ontario one of the highest taxed regions in North America. Don't forget the booze and the hydro and the HST as well. I was talking to my daughter in Alberta last night and they were paying .59 a litre this week. Is there something wrong with this picture?

BTW Carl, those grandkids keep you busy, don't they.

Anyways, it's Christmas and my other two kids showed up for the holidays and after my wife's generosity, I think I might have to sell Dog Spit.

Again, Merry Christmas everyone

Prov. & Fed's get more tax if the price is higher!!!!![ % on the price] Down in W.V. it's a fixed tax on per gal pumped, doesn't change if price goes up or down!!!

On every litre of gas there is .10 federal tax, .14.7 fuel tax and 13%HST about .11 right now so only the HST amount changes with price. The oil companies expect to have the same profit revenues each year regardless if the price is .85 or 1.25 a litre, That's why the price at the pump doesn't follow the price at the well.  The tax Ontario versus West Virginia on a US gallon in Canadian dollars is Ontario $1.35 and West Virginia .74  The .61 making up the difference in the cost of a gallon here and there.  The best tax rate is South Carolina at .49
