Saw an article today claiming ONT will start lawnmower safety inspections this summer. Could not find anything on Ont web site. Hopefully just another joke.

Na. That's just another hoax. Must have been an Email ? Certainly not in print.

Small engines and stuff are a sideline here, so I'd know before public. (ya legal business)

It's not actually the mower itself that will be subjected to scrutiny, it's the operator.

The inspections will be totally random, not a requirement.

The way I read it, it is now illegal to operate a lawn mower (both push and riding) while impaired by alcohol or drugs. If an inspector happens by or someone lodges a complaint, the operator will be required to do a sobriety test and failure will result in charges. I'll see if I can locate the original article.

Cops can and will make an impaired charge to anyone operating a motorized anything, anywhere. It's BS in my mind.

You could ride a Goat or a Horse, but anything else... not !!

That's a fact!!

 i have heard the same. i knew one guy near madoc who lost his ticket for impaired in his car and 3-4 months later got nabbed again impaired on his farm tractor while on the road, albeit in downtown madoc at the time.

My son golfed with a cop last summer who wouldn't drink more than one beer on the course while operating the golf cart - said he could get charged with impaired driving on private property.

Pretty sure it's legit, the idea behind it is to make life miserable for people operating gas powered anything .... you don't want to deal with this inspection stuff, I'd suggest you either get a push mower or a goat or two biggrin

good snooping there shaker. i could almost see something similar coming into play pertaining to all the lawn maintenance company's that have sprung up in recent years but it would be brought in by the compensation board not the vehicle inspection side. pretty much nothing surprises me anymore with the freaken idiots we have put in power at all levels and when asked nobody admits to voting for. the sorry part to this sorta sh!t is that it is almost becoming ho-hum.

I checked at local MTO office    

She said I exempt... because I cut less then 10 acres with my mower....biggrin

but since I have a Electric Lawn Mower, she said I must wear a helmet..biggrin
