My truck needs new tires...Its a 97 GMC K1500, currently has P245R/75-16s. I want to go to an LT tire as I tow my 5th wheel trailer with it. I also want to go to a 265 size. It was a standard size for these and it would also correct my speedo which is off by a few kph. I am thinking of a couple of brands. Firestone A/T Destination and Cooper A/T Adventurer. They are about the same price from what I can see online. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions?
Watch were you buy tires or things like snow blowers lawnmowers or the like there are two levels of products ctc or cosco and other similar outlets one is not junk but a dealer will sell the better product and honour any warrenty ,try dealing with cosco with any problems.

I would rather deal with Costco than any other retailer, and especially a dealership. Costco's customer service is second to none ! I will always buy major items from them especially electronics, and would not hesitate buying tires from them either.
Was leaning toward the Firestones, seem to have good reviews......As for where to buy, shop I deliver to assueres me he can give the best price.....we shall see....lol

I have been selling tires since 1971 Firestone is what we sell the most on most of our customers 4x4 Diesels
I have Goodyear on my Silverado..almost 60,000..still have many miles left on them! I never had any luck with firestones..they always seemed to wear quickly!
OK...have my tires on for a few weeks now. I like them. I seem to get just as good mileage as the slightly smaller tires got. Also, the speedo is right on now according to my GPS.
The old tires were P rated tires, which called for 50 psi, which is where I ran them. When the new LTs were installed, the guy put 40 psi in them. I bumped it up to 50. On the sidewall, it says max of 80 psi at 2350 lbs. Question is, is it OK to run them at 50? I may bump them up a bit when towing my trailer, although I will not come anywhere near the max weight. Opinions........
The only time I have bumped the pressure up past the recommended setting is to get rid of excessive sidewall flex. Normally you only notice this on ramps and cornering at highway speeds
I've had people tell me to bump my tire pressure up 5-10 lbs over the recommended and the mileage per gallon will increase.. Any thoughts??
If it was safe to do, the car manufacturers would be doing it.
This is kind of the question I have about all this. Generally, I run my tires at the max that it says on the sidewall to get good mileage with them and so they will wear evenly. The old tires said 50 psi and I always ran them at that. The new LT tires say max of 80 psi on the sidewall. My van at work has LTs also, which I keep at 70 front, 80 rear. Thats what the door label says and the TPS lights up if its less than that. It rides like a lumber wagon when empty. Question I am asking is....Will running the tires at 50 rather than 80 do any harm?

As specified, it is a recommendation, not a rule. Any drag racer, transport truck driver, or anyone with a bit of knowledge/common sense will know that tire pressure will increase with temperature. It's not exactly uncommon to see tire air pressure easily increase by 5 lbs or more on a drag car after a run or sitting in the sun for 1/2 hr.
Vehicle manufacturer post a recommended pressure for the vehicles, the tire manufacturer has there own, more so for trucks.
As long as you don't go over the recommended "Max." of the tire manufacturer.
Personally, I just find the ride rougher with the higher air pressure, and not worth the saving in fuel mileage, for the extra 5km you might get out of a 80L. tank.
