Doing route 66 a few years ago had to deal with this issue constantly however they were always able to manually correct it inside. Since Marathon is a U.S. company and doesn't do business in Canada they haven't bothered to make corrections. I dealt with companies who do or did business in Canada such as Esso , Sunoco and B.P. Americans figure the whole world must have zip codes like theirs and if you don't 'tough luck'.

For MasterCard users take the numbers of your postal code and add 2 zeros to the end. N2R 0H6 would be 20600. I got this from a mastercard site. They say it works .

Here in BC, we have had pay at the pump for quite some time.
You insert your card, dial in your PIN, pick what grade you want and start filling.
Nothing to it.
When is Ontario going to get with it?
Not saying this is how it works in US.

prepay as homer was talking about is a whole different thing.we have pay at pumps with card and have had for years.

If you are using a Canadian billed credit card in the US and want to pay at the pump, here is the procedure:
Take your postal code and remove the letters ie: M4W 1E6 = 416
Add 00 = 41600
41600 is now your ZIP code
works every time

I tried my postal code that way and it would not work
N0B 1K0 =01000
Tried at least 7 times and the girl at master card told me to go to an ATM machine to get the cash

Another thing you can try is to prepay inside before pumping. If you prepay more than you use, you only get charged for what you've pumped.

The Sunoco at Portage in NF takes Canadian Visa at the pump with no problems. Don't know about Mastercard. I'm not one to drive miles to save a cent a gallon, litre or whatever. I know their pumps work so that's where I go.

Never had trouble using my credit card in the US, did have trouble with my Interac debit card. Wouldn't work in stores, but I could take money out at Bank of America........with a fee of course.

Yep, same problem at a Marathon outside East Aurora. Wouldn't accept our debit card either, now we just take cash.

I'd say that your problem is using MasterCard. Company that I drove for 22 years ago used Visa for all fuel, repairs and motel transactions all across Canada and in the US and never had a problem. I've used my own personal Visa card all over the US for fuel, motels, parts. meals and never had an issue.

There is never a problem using a Canadian credit card in the US for anything except at pumps that require a ZIP code to accept a credit card. Also, I have tried at dozens of banks in dozens of states to access my account at either their ATM machines or over the counter. I have not found a US based bank that can accept our debit cards. This also goes for getting an advance on your credit card. The private ATMs seem to have no problem issuing money on a Canadian debit card but in limited amounts for high service fees. I have now been told that if I open an account at a US bank, I can then do e-transfer between my Canadian bank and the US bank. We were stuck in Arizona last winter for 10 days with only a credit card until our daughter brought cash for us from Canada.

This way works for me too. I use Visa.

On my Mastercard, the 3 numbers from my postal coide followed by 2 zeros. It worked for me in Arizona, California, Alaska, and bi weekly in Michigan.
