this is a spin off from the being targeted thread randy started. in there tmj made a comment about driving into and around any of the big smoke towns and i agree with him a 100%, it is getting stupid out there. the 401 has pretty much turned into a wreckum race and when you get to the big smoke it is worse.
this info will probably mean more to the guys living within a reasonable drive to via rail. i use to travel 5-6 times a year flying out of toronto and quit going anywhere due to the drive just to get to the airport from belleville and when you did get there you were a mental time bomb. 4-5 years ago i just quit traveling and i missed it and the visits with my buds when i did get to wherever i was going. about 3 weeks ago one of my buds had a bike accident around kamloops and was in rough shape and i knew i had to get out there but dreaded the trip to the plane but i had to go. i checked using via to toronto and was thinking on a cab to the airport when i found there is a train from the convention center to the airport running every 20-25 min, about an 1/8mi walk indoors over from union station for a $6.00 ticket. by the time i made up my mind to go he had been transferred to the kelowna hospital close to home and i made my plans to get there.
leaving the car at via in bellevile i was at the airport in about 2 1/2 hours still refreshed and no ticking in my head ready to go off. lol this is the only way to go if you have to fly out of toronto and there is a via station within reasonable distance from you. there were a couple of hi-cups in timing on the trip between connections, entirely my fault and it shouldn't happen again, but it is the way to go if you are planning on going somewhere flying out of toronto. for a bonus, 4 days parking at via was around $20.00 vs park-n-fly, guessing a 100.00 plus.
I think its called the UP and my wife and daughters used it to go to see the lion king from the airport hotel. Worked very well.
yea thats what it is called, man it was slick. planning my next jaunt now to l.a. for a visit with my bud who owns westech performance. i'm about 3 years overdo on this one. lol
Not just the "big Smoke" as I was at cruise in at Fowlers Corners Thursday night and one of the cars waiting to make a left turn into cruise got rear ended by a van whose driver was looking at cars in show & Pile drove a 62 Dodge that was "said" to be on way home from restoration shop!! Sure looked "straight" when they drove by but 10seconds later it was "TOTALLED" & 3 people sent to hospital!!!

i just heard about that friday when the daughter and gang were here for a visit from peterboro. the son in law mentioned it was an older mopar but he didn't mention the people to the hospital though, hope they aren't too bad. myself and a couple of guys were on our way up to there thursday on the bikes for a snoop but got side lined and landed at a buds place near lakefield, maybe for the better. it seems there is no such thing as a casual drive no more no matter where you are going or what road your on. that's a busy hiway anymore.
now that you mention that. I was on my way home from a days fishing at Stony lake and a tow truck passed me headed towards Chemong Rd. and i caught a glimpse of an older car on the back and another on the hook ,i believe. I passed the cruise in at Fowlers cor. and noted a large gathering of some pretty good looking cars . I couldn,t tell what was on the flatbed truck as i was towing my boat and couldn,t make out the car in my mirrors. I hope the injuries are not serious.
There was one of the van that hit them as well .Evidently ,I read, there were no skid marks as they were looking at the
cars when they hit the Plymouth turning into the park at full speed. Yes the gas tank was knocked out of the car and
ended up down the road. Ed
I heard yesterday at another car show that driver of the "Dodge" is NOT doing well [ Critical condition] from someone who works at Peterborough hospital???? Gas tank was run over by van, rear end "punched" about 2 ' ahead on dodge & front seat was ripped out of the floor from what I saw when there. Hoping he pulls through!!!!

Not that it matters as that dodge got hit hard but those early '60's Dodge's only have one strap holding the gas tank in,, I know mine only has one TMJ
I'm wondering about that seat , and if it was bucket converted as there are several square reinforcements that go into the mopar floor for the 8 seat bolts
those reinforcements were worth ridiculous money even twenty years ago
There are pictures of the collision on the Port Hope Cruisers facebook site. I don't know how to share them but maybe someone here does. Ed

Only one I could see of the Plymouth
a buddy stopped a couple of hours ago to shoot the sh!t and this accident came up. turns out some of us on here know the owner of the polara i am sure. it is glen cole, the guy who had all the hemi cars north of brighton. s.o.b. good guy
Us older guys learned early on that Driving is a serious business as John Milner said!!! Sight seeing as you are at speed - dah. My whole family almost got wacked this eve by a bonehead doing something in the back seat, realized he was on our side of the road & almost overcorrected aiming at a guardrail.

turns out the driver of the car, sam, is a good friend of mine and we were yakking about this today. he got his bell rung, aka knocked out, and is still pretty stiff in places with a headache that comes and goes but ok. the passenger was an older guy who used to work for him and he was roughed up more ending up under the dash but he is ok also, stiff and sore but ok. they are both finding they are getting sorer in their joints as time goes on and that is to be expected but nothing broken, nobody was critically hurt by any means. the car is toast and they are thinking to salvage the parts if someone is looking for some. the motor pushed the rad ahead into the grill.
luckily the guy who owns the car had just made the turn into the place ahead of him in another car or sam could of ended up the baloney in the middle of the sandwich, his words. lol
