I worked at Easton AMC while in highschool. I drove many an "X" vehicle of various designations. Some were very quick( 401 Hornet X), some handled really well( 258 powered Pacer - honest, those things cornered like go-karts) and some were just okay.
One year Jack ( Easton) bought a bunch of ex-Cop cars (401 Matadors with Police packages) at the Toronto Auction. One of my buddies and I were shuttled over to bring them back. Bit of a mistake on Jacks part, we'd park them as far from the building as possible when we got home - just to let all the "pinging' and "popping" die down.
I really would liked to have seen a V8 Pacer from the factory.......just because.

Very good read! I never knew about that option but of course was to poor to buy any new car. I did put a few together one in particular was my favourite,it was a Levi optioned car that I put a Jeep Cherokee 401 into. I used the factory turbo 400 out of the Jeep along with some turbo 400 car parts to make it 2wd but had problems with the Key way on the axles but I solved that with a mustang 9 in that was a close bolt in. The best part was a few go fast parts for the engine and the look on buddy’s face in chevelles and rt’s as I waited for them to catch up at the next red light😁

My Great- Grandfather used to tell me " Randy, you need to learn something new every day to keep your brain active" I guess he was right, he had all his wits about him when he passed at 98.
With that in mind, I just found out this week that AMC had originally intended to put a Rotary engine in the Pacer in a deal with GM but then GM bailed. Too bad, they would have been killers. Say what you want about fish-bowls, like I said, they could carve corners stock, imagine if they were tweaked with that powerplant and a 5 spd?

I have no doubt V8Deuce
