We have a half acre of grapes as part of our place here in Vineland. There are Concord ( blue), Fredonia ( blue) and Niagara ( white). Most of the plants are older than me ( 62), planted by my Great Grandfather and haven't seen a pesticide in over 40 years. My wife makes Juice and Jelly from them, the absolute best grape juice anywhere! If you drink 6 oz of this stuff un-cut you better be near a sh*tter a couple hours later.
This year one of our son's and myself pulled out all the end posts, installed new cedar end posts and anchors then strung new wire throughout. It looks beautiful, if I do say so myself. The plants, old as they are are bent and curled from hanging on drooping wires for so many years but we've been burying long arms and starting new plants for future generations.
I would like to find some Catawba ( red) grapes so if any of you know about some please let me know. I"ll be happy to get some brush from the plants after they've been pruned to start some new ones.
I hope you're all weathering the Virus Isolation well, perhaps getting lots of work done on your hot-rods?
Where in Vineland are you? Does Vineland go up over the mountain?
There was an old train station up there somewhere many years ago.
I think it got turned in to a house. Right on the curve of the road.
I'll bet your lawns and gardens look amazing! The lawns in particular though, with all those restored mowers......
Hi Jarvis, If you Google Map 4022 Victoria ave, Vineland you'll find my home. I actually live at 4016, which is the 2nd house on the paved driveway. The first one my Mom lives in and the 3rd is our oldest son. There is a barn north of those 3 houses, then a garage and another house north of the barn. This is the original home built in 1785, it's all post and beam. Our kids are the 8th generation to live here, my wife and I bought it from my Grandmother. The 3 houses on the paved drive only show their addresses on Victoria. We gave each of our 3 kids one of the houses. As I mentioned, the oldest lives next door, our youngest son will move into the original home and our daughter and son-in-law can have our home anytime they want. They bought a really nice place up on the mountain, backing onto Chippawa Creek so we'll stay for the time being. The plan is to build a nice little 2 bedroom in the north/west corner of the property for us. I believe the building you're talking about used to be on the T, H & B Railway ( Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo) which is no longer in service. The building is now a home and is on Highway 20 ( Pelham) 2nd driveway east of Victoria Ave ( Regional Rd 24 - Vineland Townline....we've got so many names we don't know where we live), it has a grey roof and you can see the RR design. The Street View doesn't do it justice. Since the pic was taken a lot of work has been done to the building and the gardens in front are amazing. I take it you're familiar with the area?

I lived in the east end of Hamilton until I came out here to do a job for Otis Elevator. 1981. I liked it here and stayed. But we used to roam all over the country side when we were young. I had friends in Beamsville, Grimsby, etc. My son lives on Highland Rd., Stoney Creek. He has a '32 Ford tudor. I'm thinking about a visit back there later this year.
I've driven by your place many a time over the years. You may remember a friend of mine that years ago lived down the road from you just south of the QEW, Stan Coppen.

I don't know if he had a yellow Chev ragtop. I remember he had big old 60's Caddy he bought from the proverbial little old lady. I think in those days he turned cars over frequently. He lived at his parents in one of those little houses between the Petro Can and Ming's Garden. Served most of his apprenticeship at that Petro Can before it was a Petro Can. I forget what it was called then. He finished his apprenticeship at Jack Grahams in Grimsby. Back then he was working on a Model A coupe. He had a Jag rear end for it which he had show chromed. He went to BC for a holiday one year. When he came back he sold most everything. Bought a Chevy van. Loaded his Harley and tool box in it and said he wouldn't be back. Has a nice place on the Island. He visits but now that his parents are gone he may not be back. That was back in the mid 70's. He has a nice Deuce Coupe and is working on a 26-7 T roadster pickup with a flat head.
Might you know a friend of Stan's I also knew? He may live some where across the street from you I think. His name was Rick Downs. Had a '34 coupe. Robbed me of a pair of front fenders for it.

I don't think I knew him, I must have been thinking of someone else. His name sounds so familiar though, he probably knew Bill Trelford, Claire Warren, Brian Philbrick, they'are all just a few years older than me and he probably worked for Burt who owned the garage for years. My daughter and son-in-law rent the garage portion now, it's called Lakeside Auto.
Yep, I know Rick and Aggie, they're right across the road, great folks. He was working for Don Carter in Campden way back then. Years ago, I took my Falcon to Don for it's first paint job and the guy tried to steal the car from me.
I met Rick at Don Carter's shop in Down Town Campden. I think Don was Rick's brother in law. Rick was a friend of Stan's.
" I took my Falcon to Don for it's first paint job and the guy tried to steal the car from me", I'm not surprised. Rick was going to sand blast a pair of wheels for me from a '34 Chev 3 window I coupe I had then. Don intervened and made me sorry I ever walked in the place. At the time Don had some neat cars.
How about another car guy. Used to live down the road from you. Roughly across from the AMC dealer. Later sort of behind the Dealer. Age is taking it's toll I can't remember the name of the defunct American Motors Dealer. Anyway his name is Mike Valliant.
Yup, we're talking about the same Don Carter. The AMC dealership was "Easton's", Jack the Proprietor. I worked there for a couple years, watched Jack talk someone into.....and an hour later right back out of buying, lol. He couldn't stop talking. Mike still lives here in Vineland, his wife - and I believe the boat and Vette are all gone. I see him walking past every couple days and talk to him now and then.
Dan, there used to be a Dr Adie here in Vineland. Any relation?

Sorry fella's, I was at my son's North place east of Bracebridge for a few days. Geoff, who did you pick-up the Nova from? If you're coming this way again stop around.
