A Delivery Company issue I have a question about....

In this era of on-line ordering and door-step delivery I'm wondering if any of you out there have experienced delivery issues?

We have a paved lane extending in off Victoria Ave on which we have 3 houses on the south side and a barn, barn/garage and another home on the north. My Mom lives in the first house, my wife, younger son and I in the second and oldest son in the third. The home on the north side is a rental until our youngest son marries - soon.

We all order items on-line and have them delivered, services we all greatly appreciate.

The issue at hand is Delivery Driver speed on our private lane-way. We've brightly painted and strategically located a 2' X 4' sign at the entrance to our property:            "DRIVE  SLOW"

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          "CHILDREN and PETS PLAYING"

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     "10 KLM / HR"

I've spoken with numerous drivers politely asking them to slow down - and to please pass the word to co-drivers. While most ( but not all) are apologetic the next delivery driver is a different person and I have to go through it all again. I also strongly believe by Driver reaction/response that there is a serious language comprehension issue. Numerous calls to the Delivery Company ( Go Logistics Inc ) Dispatch  and subsequent conversations regarding their Drivers speed are heard but never dealt with.

I can appreciate it's not a high paying career and the pressure to perform coupled with Customer complaints makes it a tough day for these folks but come on, use some common sense....oh, wait. Never mind.

Going to the Source of Purchase has been made but the feed-chain is a long one and so far yielded no results.

I've considered installing a lock-box at point of entry but that seems an expensive and troublesome solution that will only lead to different issues down the road.

If one of my family members is injured by one of these cowboys there's no doubt I'm going to jail.

Anyone else experience similar issues and if so, have you been able to rectify them - and how?

Hello Iwannagofast: Bit of an irony in having this issue and this problem but I digress. I am a retired postman of 32 years and I can only give you my perspective from within CPC. I think I had a fairly good rapor with most of my customers over the years and when a customer made a request or raised an issue of complaint, I tried to assist. Mine was not usually a driving route but regardless, I can tell you that often any issues that arose with myself or my colleagues seemed to be relaying things back to management to see if they could be addressed. Some tried. In fairness, I guess I could say most tried but passing info to staff when positions change so frequently was at the heart of the problem very often. Especially if a route was considered longer than most and nobody wanted it long term as their own. If it helps, I chose to put a large box close to my garage so any parcels that are too large for the box at the end of my drive can still be left safely. I should however add that I am on a rural route on a dead end street far removed from traffic so leaving parcels in an open box isn't an issue. At least so far. In short, a box at the end sounds good to me but I really don't know your situation geographically. Generally though, most carriers try to do a good job. That's been my experience. Not all but most. Just like anywhere else I imagine. I hope this at least eases your mind a bit.

Hi Cuddles, I appreciate you're candor, thank you.
I have a couple friends who were also with Canada Post so I hear what you're saying about relaying info up the ladder.
We have deliveries by Can Par, U.P.S. and a couple other smaller Regional Delivery Companies and so far I haven't had the issue I'm concerned about with this Company. Driver behavior seems to be a problem with this Company, much more so than others. After I read posted reviews I can see others have same or similar concerns......so at least I'm not alone.
I mentioned the lock-box but as I said, it'll become problematic on it's own I imagine - we live on one of the busiest mountain access roads in Niagara. Vandalism / theft will certainly become an occurrence.
I just don't understand why it is so difficult for Dispatch to add a message to the Driver(s) right along with our address alerting them to "DRIVE SLOW AT THIS LOCATION". I really don't care what language they put it in.

got a pick axe?

a few well placed speed trenches across the driveway will slow down most..

a little finesse with the fan rake to make things smooth enough you have to know they're there and .. the result should be as needed

well the way i read this is, if your laneway was/is maybe 25 to 50ft they might cruise at 10km but it sounds with 3 or 4 places on the same lane that it is more. these delivery joints get paid by the stop, not by the hour so they are hustling. today if there are specific instructions per stop it is on their i-phone or tablet and with your 10km stipulation they are busy so you have to find a joint that pay's their drivers by the hour, not by the stop. 10k is probably idle speed and per delivery that's not going to happen.

I would get a couple or more speed bumps, the hard rubber ones that can be staked into the roadway. Not sure where to get them, but can find out easily enough.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's the way to go. My oldest guy is an electronics geek, maybe he can help me install some remote controlled spikes too, lol.

Yep, it's about 200', plenty of time for them to wind it up. As for choosing a Delivery Company - I can't, most of the items are through Amazon and they contract the Delivery Companies. I've been in contact with Amazon too. I'll keep y'all posted on how it goes. Thanks everyone for your suggestions though.

Well, like I said, speed bumps. They don't need to go all the way across. Two should do the job.
