this is something affecting all of us

I was up to Etobicoke this past tuesday to order up wrought iron railings for my front porch and then on to Oakville for a visit with a very good friend from the old days trucking, going through the cancer crap.

First off, i hate driving up to Toronto anymore due to the volume of traffic and the all day congestion anywhere you go up there. years ago when i lived up there in my trucking days you only really laid low during morning and afternoon rush hours.  when i got to the iron shop in the west mall about 9:30 you could see a light haze in the air with a hint of wood smoke in it.  by the time i was leaving Oakville around 2:30- 3:00 the haze was pretty much similar to a medium fog with a definite plastic odor and taste to it.  WTF

going east on the 407 across the Mississauga area you could barely see the hydro towers along the south side about an 1/8 mile off the hiway and not the lines between towers, the smoke was so bad. i have driven through thousands of miles of fog in my days trucking but this stuff to day will kill you if you have any weak spots in your breathing system. when i got home i did a snoop about the definite plastic smell and found this, and some other scary facts.

 https://www.theweathernetwork.com/en/news/weather/severe/smelling-plastic-millions-are-in-the-path-of-toxic-smoke-plumes

Guys, i am thinking our world and way of life is about to change very-very rapidly and there ain't much we can do to stop or solve it in my life time or yours. this is going to be a generational problem if doable and it will be coming like a freight train, the changes. Being a smoker my whole life this has me thinking and concerned truthfully. Yeah i know, i am am the idiot for smoking that long but it is what it is.

Was heading to Fowler's Corner cruise in Thursday. Stopped for gas at Pickering, seen the thick haze, turned around and went back home.

I've got the HRV unplugged currently. Only incoming air is from opening a door or turning on the range hood.

VOC's??........damn, that's like painting a car with no mask on.

Brought my dogs in last night using a flashlight (one dog is deaf)
and this is our signal. Have you ever noticed when there is a sunbeam
in a room and you see all those particles floating in it,well that is what I
saw last night in the beam of the light. Really made me take this smoke
thing seriously. Saw lots of people with puffers today at Canada Day
celebrations in Port Hope. Things got real this week. Ed

Drove from Hanover to Kincardine and back the other day. Thought I was in Hamilton in the 70s.

I remember that scene Ponch coming out of toronto on top of the skyway bridge looking down on a dark haze around the bay. when you got to the toll booth you could smell it.

What is the name of this metal shop on The West Mall? or do they only deal with Railings?

I tend to go down to MR. Metal on The Queensway and Kipling area.

It is called Art Metal Workshop on paxman road, right behind the old dominion stores warehouse, forget what is called now though. if i remember right you work right around the corner at the old a&p warehouse, forget what it is now to, lol. i delivered a lot of loads of produce out of the south into those 2 places in the 70's and 80's.
58ft of made to measure wrought iron railing is 1/2 the price they wanted here and i have a truck picking up once or twice a week around the corner on shorncliff, too easy. 10 pcs in total.

Got a old bud and his wife here now visiting/resting on their way to the east coast. they live 7 to 8 hour drive north of edmonton in high level alberta and he was telling me the smoke up there had the visibility down to a 1/2 mile for periods during the day at times, says you couldn't actually see the sun at all through the haze. he says another problem up there north of him is the perma frost coming out and making some small communities cut off with no road in.
