Opinions please...

What is the legal requirement for the height of rear lights?

Here is a vehicle that has very low tail lights.  These are definitely lower than 22".

I think as long as they are visible up to 300 meters back, they are good to go.

There is another but memory block and can't think of it.

You say, that you did not chop the front. Was it previously chopped or is it stock?

Correct, it was chopped before I got it, more than once, lol

Thanks Chuck. Yes, the doors are a tad long.

Been looking up rear light options. Like the placement here, and love the style of light on the second picture..

Canadian vehical standards says 60 mm for lamps....wont find it in HTA

Higher is better for visibility....just sayin....especially tail lights

I have placed lights at 20 inches and never been questioned

I have seen lights in the bottom of roll pans.....just asking for problems

Since you are workin on the rear window anyway why not some kind of vertical lights flush with th window at each end and you could go for the third light along the top edge.Sort of a halo effect. You could have some small lights behind the rear bumper as well. Ed

Dave
I once mounted my taillights sort of like the taillights on the Model A above. I used 1/2" OD steel tube and a bender for the bends.
A couple of small flanges on each end. Ran the wire through the tube. It worked well.
I think the angle that the lights are on is as important as the height
Just an idea. Your car looks real good..

Hmmm, I think you may be on to something here.

You're saying I can have the lights at the bottom, but they are pretty much for show, as long as I have lights higher up, soooo

I could hide the upper lights (either side of the window) behind some colour matched mesh.

Are reflectors a legal requirement here?

No reflectors are required

Based on the year of the car

1 brake light only. No turn signal

Hand signal

Simple  tail lights that are easy to see like the ones you posted. rope lights, ground effects, and flashing licence  plate protectors are gay. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay and that's the style you like.

That one would suit the tradishional vintage look..It was first introduced into  legislation by Piere Elliot Trudeau.. I'm just not sure it actualy related to highway traffic act....must have though, I believe I have seen a few people give me that signal on occasion.. I think it's a passing signal because they are usualy passing me when they give me that signal and I beleive you are supposed to snarl when using it...Never to be used to a fellow rodder..disbelief

Yes, I got something in my eye, my wife's wagging finger

Hoping to get some stuff done today. Quite fancy grinding the whole body down and get rid of that filler. Crappy job, but needs done.

Well, didn't get started till after 1pm, and it just felt cold and damp outside, so didn't get much done

First, I had to put a final patch in the window section so got that done..

1.jpg

2.jpg

Chooped the top out for the window to sit square, still need to add a bit at the bottom. You can see a little notch where it will go

3.jpg

Decided to make some rad brackets.

I just used some 1 x 1 tubing for now. One along the bottom of the frame, and two verticals. I can drill holes in them and the rad will bolt right in.

I slotted the bottom of the rad cover, so it slides over the posts and hides all the brackets etc.

4.jpg

Side on view to check for space for alternator and fan etc

5.jpg

Moved the body up as I tried sitting in it and my head was toucjing the roof, but then I realised the body frame was sitting much higher than it will be, so I will drop the body back down a couple of inches.

6.jpg

And I'm still ressisting a rake!!!, but getting tempted

Thanks for all the positive comments folks.

I will be bringing the rad a few inches closer to the engine, and a few inches lower. It does look a bit front heavy at the moment, but I still have headlights and a grille to add, so that should balance things up a bit.

If you ask Glenn, you'll know I'm a bit anal about stuff, so trust me, this baby won't hit the road till I'm 100 percent happy with how it looks, and that includes what other people will think of it. Glenn is out to shock, I'm out to please

With regards to the engine position, as was mentioned, it sits very close to the middle, so I should have a really good weight ratio front to back.

I've been to physio this week, so had to slow things down a bit, but at least now I know what I've done to my arm and how to repair it, and stop bitching about it to everyone with a pair of ears, lol.

Stay tuned

The longer the wheel base the smother the ride with marginal suspension. won't jump around like a jeep.Even if you did want to trim it back a bit its not a huge deal anyway.

i was going to jack up the rear of my rat truck somewhat but i like the low ass look so i made it pretty much level.  i find the tires are hitti ng the rear fenders sometimes so i might give it another inch.  one thing i found out about is the stuff you hang up on and scrape on being so low.  i have to plan where i drive carefully

Hey Dave, you build is looking great. I believe your going to have a very cool ride when finished. I was reading your wish list and have an offer for you. A few years ago I was in the lobby at Spaenaur looking through there old stock bin and picked out a repro set of 41 - 47 GM door handles for 50 cents each. There yours if you want them. I may even have some scrounged Toyota door latches floating around my junk pile. I'll look as soon as I get a chance.

I think it's a great idea for Dave to ask our opinions. If he gets 10 opinions on each build phase, and he picks out the ones that suit him or reaffirm what he already has in mind, then he IS actually building it HIS way!!!(providing he doesn't take cues from the same guy every time). A little guidance never hurt anyone and is a great source for fresh ideas that you never would have thought of!!!

On being original: I don't think there are very many original ideas left out there anymore, and with the internet images available these days, it's even tougher to build something that hasn't already been done. Some of the builds I've seen over the years have put so much effort into making sure their build is totally original, they end up with something less than pleasant to the eye - there is a reason nobody has gone there!!!

Like the others have said, do what you feel will look the best to you without trying to please anyone but yourself!!!

Was out to Dave's home Tuesday nite checking out his VISION.

Car and frame look really good! For a first timer he is really getting the feel for

this hobby. Car looks long in photo's , but is damn near spot on in real time.

Once the altenator ,water pump and fan are put on, wont leave much room

between the rad and engine. He has some great plans for the build.

Also helped him achieve one of his goals for his "BUCKET" list LOL
