Thanks for the great pics again RWW!! I remember reading where Rudy Helds car originated, but it was long ago and can't remember!!
Waiting to see what Gazoo comes up with.
Believe it or not I saw this Colt leave the line and the rear slicks quivered in the air. It must have leaned way back on the wheelie bars till the rear tires came off of the ground.
man, that altered wheelbase Falcon must have took a few runs to get it straight with that short wheelbase!!
Lovin the dragway park pics!
(Notice in lots of these old pics, the slicks exposed to the sun on trailers and ramp trucks? Never see that much nowdays!)
Sandy Elliots Cars,, great race team.
Sweet pit crew!! Lol Like the twin 292 engined dragster,, Kay Sissel, met him at the nationals spent half a day with him cruisin the pits. Super guy!!
Sadly we lost him way too early.
Introduced me to a friend of his running his heads, It was an odd one, 63 Chevy2, set up to run a 292 Chev engine, plus a 300 Ford 6. (The engines were switched there.) One engine was used in qualifying if i remember right.
At that time Sissel was running his altered.
Interesting fabric covering that fence in the rear. Burlap??
The track in Pomona is on the corner of the LA Fairgronds (now called the Fairplex) Behind the tarp was the street. It was the same on the right side of the strip all the way down past the finish line when I was there. The fence was also a great place for signage
The building in the pic that is over the Valvoline Banner is on the other side of the road.

Yes! The late Willie Borsch. That guy put on a real show!! Cool to see a clone of that car still owned by Mousie Marcellus and now driven by a younger Mike Boyd.
The story is that Willies ashes are in the new car, -so Willies still ridin along.
(The biography of the winged express and Willie and Mousie is a great read if you look it up.)
Good pic of the Highlander car.

You sure that's Willie?? I don't see his hand on the top of the body, as he always did. That man was always one of my favourite showmen.

That isn't willie, that is the clone car with Mike Boyd driving now for Mousie.
Re: The one arm driving,, Willie and Mousie eventually went to a funny car due to the match race shows drawing bigger crowds with those cars.
Apparently the funny car did have a fake arm on it, but the altered was the real arm.
Noticed in this last pic, the slicks are in wrappers, but still subject to the heat of the sun.
Great pic and nice Camero. Sweet Camero in Pic #1 of this group. Notice the big old 61?? Pontiac ambulance in the background.
Sweet bunch of pics!! Stricklers Corvette that he hated, claimed it was an evil handling car no matter what, and ended up cutting it up, before someone was killed in it.
(Someone got carried away with the orange spray bomb on Chilly Willy, - Even the ladies boots are orange!! Lol)

Nice pic of FJ Smith!!
That Camero is still around. Saw it at Arm Drop 2011. Bought cylinder heads from the present owner. Thanks again RWW.
