I see a lot of cars come through the shop that the customer has installed, or paid to have installed a new "cold air intake". The problem is that most of these "kits" actually suck in the hot air under the hood. Even better when they leave the intake air sensor in the cars fender intake so the computer thi...

Anyone put a Small Block Chev V8 (in my case a 350CI), Into a 1960 - 1962 Chevrolet C10 truck that originally came with a straight 6, 235CI engine.I have a 1961 Chevy C10 Apache Suburban that came from a military base near Huntsville Alabama. It had a 235 straight 6 with 3 speed manual trans. It had the “U” m...
was reading the link about being short on posting stuff and thought an avatar change up from my truck to one of my cars was a good change and it might start something. 69 coronet with a year correct motor. it was a black plate 318 car i brought up from california about 15 plus years ago. it is now a year corr...
How do we have so many members and we barely generate a dozen posts a week in all categories - has everyone lost interest or got too old or what???? This is the kind of apathy that is killing our gearhead culture Come on guys and gals - post whatever it is that is on your mind - or out in your shop, or is your...
I thought I had the wiring all sorted out but my alternator still isn't running. (I don't think I am repeating an old thread but maybe I am forgetting again.) I bought a Haynes repair manual and read it and I've watched a lot of videos on-line. Most deal with switching to a 1 wire. Of course I read my littl...
Funny how time flys. It would appear that it’s been eight years since I last posted on this site. That suggests that it has been eight years or so since I have been really involved in hot rods ect. I guess that I have always had something to do with cars in one way or another. However, I remember a time when I w...
I think the worst part of of this hobby is discovering a fuel leak and I just did. The filler pipe on top of my gas tank is very short but I managed to get 3 plumbers clamps around the base of it to hold the rubber sleeve on up to my filler cap. But it isn't enough. It leaks if I fill the tube. I can try not to fill th...
.......and I smoked a fattie before starting, this is the result. " Jim" is my cousin, he flies over now and then and snaps a pic so I wanted to say Hi to him. " Bob" is a neighbor, he flies in the Lanc and the B29 so whenever they're out they make a point of flying over here too, so I had to say hi to him too.
My door handles never quite worked right. The passenger side handle binds and won't open from inside unless I slam it with the palm of my hand while holding the inside handle up. I think the only thing wrong is that the two screws I use to hold the handle on are too long. I will test that theory today. I a...
I’m heading out tomorrow morning for the coast. Anyone else heading east for this show? I haven’t been there for a few years. It was a great show then so I’m sure it won’t disappoint. Hopefully the weather co-operate. The 55 isn’t done, but I think I’ll take it anyway. We’ll see if I’m able to straighten o...
I was up to Etobicoke this past tuesday to order up wrought iron railings for my front porch and then on to Oakville for a visit with a very good friend from the old days trucking, going through the cancer crap. First off, i hate driving up to Toronto anymore due to the volume of traffic and the all day con...
Folk's, one of my boys is looking for a good running Chev 350 with Turbo 350/400 attached if possible. Please let me know what you have and how much? Thanks
So a was going thru the stash and found this. It has a casting number of 3233612 beside the carb base, it has the usual GM fireing order on the front runner. I noticed that the ports are all numbered 1 thru 8. It has the oil filler tube at the front and is a 4bbl. Doesn't look like any SBC I remember seeing arou...
So I have a bunch of different blocks and complete assys. Just curious if there is any interest in old blocks .Probably good for cores. There are 6 SBC various ages from 60s to 90s ,there is a 55 Nailhead with trans, there is a 48 Pontiac flathead with trans, and a couple straight 6s . Just wondering if you g...
I have a 1G Ford Mustang alternator. I finally sorted out where the wires are supposed to go but I don't know what size wires. I need to run 4 wires from my regulator and some are 14 and 16 gauge I think but one might be a thicker wire. I'm not sure. I am trying to do this right and avoid a future fire.
My home made panhard bar measured 14" center to center (including heim joints). My new coil overs are on and the car rides 2" higher. Great ! But now I can't get my axle to sit center. The closest I can get is 1/2" more on the passenger side. My springs are 3" longer than the old ones. I have had the car on an...
Is anyone familiar with the AGM batteries ? I see Costco is promoting them and they are really expensive but are they worth it ? I am thinking about a 6 volt. Fiberglass and lead plate technology, is it rerally any better ?
All, A good friend of mine bought a 1960 Lincoln with a 430 engine. He was pretty excited to get a car in such good shape for such a good price. When he picked it up, the keys were missing....... Hmmm. Anyway, back at home, it appears that someone may have left a valve cover off for a decade or two. One of t...
I think it is called a heim joint. I managed to loosen the bolt at both ends and one bolt was easy to get out. The other turns ok and even the large washed I managed to turn but that bolt just won't come out. I eventually turned the Panhard bar off the heim joint at that end. I'd still like to get that joint o...
There is a bolt at the bottom of my front shock that I would like to replace with a grade 8 bolt. After one of my rear suspension bolts sheared through, I want to avoid that happening again. But I am not sure which part of the suspension I should put the jack under to take pressure off the bolt so I can remove i...
I am mounting my new coil overs and I actually gat them both on but then Bill came over and noticed that one rear whell is almost touching the body now and the other is now out from the body about 2 or 3 inches further. I was so busy getting the shocks on, I didn't notice. The whole axle shifted. I have a panhar...
Anyone going to Lindsay this weekend??? I am almost loaded and this is the last time for vending I think. Heading up Thur. morning to get the hydro plug in before they are all taken.
I recently purchased two vintage visors and hope to sell one but I am unsure how to mount the one I am keeping. Does anyone have any photos of how the mounts for the vosors physically attach to the vehicle ? Do they require nuts and bolts or screws or pop rivets ? I still have to curl the edges and drill holes i...
Well it's swap meet season and time for gatherings but be careful out there. I got kind of careless and wear my mask in side sometimes and maybe forget to wash my hands sometimes when getting back in the car to go home. Well, I got sick. I don't think it was covid. Just a flue but it had me horizontal for 5 d...
I got fed up with trying to see the lines I draw on metal with pencils or coloured pencils or just scratching lines so I went to the dollar store and got a pack of mackers for a couple bucks. They worked ok but then I saw white markers at princess auto for a few dollars more for one. I bought one and it lasted ov...
My rad cap sits inder my rad shell so it is hard to access. I have seen extensions on radiators that make the rad cap more accessible. Are they add ons or only available with a whole new rad ? I guess what I was told in the begining was true, it is never finished.
Went to Stirling today and really enjoyed the day. The weather was great and I got to spend the day with my friends. The isles were packed with car stuff and it looked like people were actually buying. Ran into a bunch of people I had not seen in a long time so that was a bonus as well. Personally I spent more...
sideyardmechanicI personally have not had to do this but I found this online and it seems correct Disconnect the battery from the donor car, ensure polarity is correct, turn your ignition switch on, place the "hot" jumper lead...
I thought some of you might get a chuckle out of this. I had to put new tires on the tractor so while the rims were out getting new rubber I grabbed a couple aluminum rims from one of my boy's Quads......I thought they looked pretty good.
Practically everyone here is using a nick name ,but does your car or truck have one? I ask because I've been watching a show that the guy from Hot Rod magazine comes up with some very clever ones for the vehicles on the show. I have yet to get one for my 51 1300 Chevy ... Well my buddy calls it "Gangreen" jus...
As I mentioned over on the Bantam thread, I just acquired a tow vehicle. It is a 1962 Studebaker Lark Station Wagon. The body is rock solid as is everything underneath. Brakes and suspension have gotten a little tired over the past 57 years but the wagon only has 33K miles on it. The engine purrs like...
A family member wanted a version of this logo cleaned up (it was a photo of a car decal, but had ink bleed and dust on it). Instead, cobbled from a few references, I remade the logo in Illustrator instead. A high quality version online doesn't exist, so I'm posting for anyone who wants to use it in their per...
For those of us without plasma cutters, this is how I make tight curves in 16 gauge. I'm sure someone will tell me a better way. At least I hope so. I have 2 more to make. I could use a grinder for the outside curves but what the heck, I'm drilling anyway and I want to be precise.
A good friend is resurrecting an old Nash project that has been on hold for quite awhile and asked about where to find some reliable info on hopping up a ford 300 6 banger for it. any leads would be greatly appreciated. thanks, rick

I have a vintage external sun visor for sale for $300. Although it looks rough, I think it is functional. I did not clean it at all but I carefully brought it back to shape where it appears to have suffered rough treatment in storage. I had it entirely apart and restored all the sliding parts to fun ctio...
Well it was a challenge. My old shock eyelets were only 1" wide so the mounts only accomodated 1". My new coil over eyelets are 1 1/2" wide with the rubber bushing/sleeve so I had to fab new mounts. I tacked them together and still have to weld them but they fit by wrapping under the frame to connect with th...
